Default Timing adjustment and FI.

So I've been looking at the safest way possible to produce good power and still have a reliable car that will last. As far as I know, when going FI, if something goes wrong the ECU does not have the capability of pulling enough timing to safe an engine in time.

I came across this, it will not only monitor for knock but it will inform you on which cylinder its happening and then perform individual timing correction on it the next time it fires. J&S Electronics • Tech Articles

Has this been used on a 370Z before? Price is $585 for the interceptor unit which is the one that would be compatible with our cars.

I'm pretty sure no one has been able to adjust timing yet. If you try to the ECU reverts back to stock parameters.

Are you sure the ECU will revert? that's not what I understood from talking to J&S. Anyone else wants to chime in?

That is the J@S safeguard and not a lot of G or 350Z owners use it.

Osiris enables the tuner to set the ignition timing however they please. I'm not sure where you got your information from.

I thought it was the other way around. I've been reading and searching and looks like very good safety net to have. What's your take on the system Mike?

I read somewhere else that because of the way this thing connects, the ECU is not aware of the changes it's making. It pretty much feeds the signal from the sensor to the ECU and it makes adjustments before the ECU has too... Hopefully that made sense.

A paragraph from UpRev's tuning guide for Nissans:

Quote:
On the newer vehicles equipped with VVEL, the ignition advance algorithms rely heavily on knock sensor feedback. In
many cases it is not possible to make the ECU run more advance because as soon as you increase the values it hears
something on the knock sensor and adjusts accordingly. For VVEL vehicles you WILL still have to pull timing for forced
induction applications so that it won’t ping before it has a chance to do any learning. However for NA applications about
all you can do is pull back the high spots and smooth the table out. The ECU will do the rest on it’s own. In our testing
we found that pulling LARGE values from the main ignition table caused a LARGE power drop on the first run, but after a
few consecutive runs the ECU would advance the ignition right back to where it was before based on knock sensor
feedback.
In some ways our cars are self-tuning within reasonable limits.

What do you think about this data? With 45ºC in air intake.
