What's Next For Me?

Hey guys!! I just got my car back from the Nissan dealership (I needed them to install my driver's side cat because I couldn't get it out). They charged me $420 just to do the install...apparently that is the going rate when an acetiline torch is needed <- sarcasm. Either way...glad it's done and over with now.

My question is what should I do next? I have a Stillen Gen3 intake and Berk HFC/CBE. Was thinking of doing the GTM SC in the future, but I drive a 7AT. Will the SC be ok on an automatic? If I wanted to do something quicker (wouldn't do a SC for a few years), what could I do?

Mr&Mrs 09-24-2011 06:39 PM

Hi Josh hope to see you at a local meet. You should come to the next Z club meeting at Nissan of Brandon on October 14th. Without building the 7AT it is a waiting game on how long it will last. Full bolt ons with a tune nets a decent amount of power that should hold you over until you get your forced induction.

Thanks for the invite! I work in Ybor City so it wouldn't be a far drive at all after work to make the meet! What do you mean it's a waiting game to see how long it would last? Is the SC not reliable on automatic cars? How much more can I bolt on? Headers?

Mr&Mrs 09-24-2011 06:58 PM

Yes headers and a tune is all you have remaining. No one really knows how much the AT can handle, but from what I have seen with my time on the board I would be very careful. It's the only reason I have not went FI yet and probably won't.

You know...that's very true. That's kind of good news since I really didn't want to shell out $9k. What whp could I get up to with full bolt-ons and a tune?

joshs09slvrZ 09-26-2011 06:23 PM

So I called around to some shops today and they all quoted me right around $600 to install headers. That means I'm looking at around $1,200 just to add headers to my car. At this point, I'm not really sure it's worth it so I'm thinking that I may just get a tune and be done with modifying. I would imagine that even a single mount turbo would be too much for the 7AT?

Jamaica 09-26-2011 06:28 PM

The automatic transmission just need supporting mods. Transmission cooler and tune. With the uprev tune your able to tune the transmission. The transmission can handle 500whp with the supporting mods.

joshs09slvrZ 09-26-2011 06:40 PM

I have the UpRev tune on my list of things to do. So you think I should do the tune first and then I can mod more? What would you suggest?

Jamaica 09-26-2011 06:43 PM

What is your overall goal of the car and how much power you want to put out?

NYBladeZ 09-26-2011 06:59 PM

if you plan on going FI don't get the headers as there are no proven results yet. However, I have them, they kick *** and I'm happy I got them even if the install is a bitch.

My overall goal is just to have a faster car. It is a DD for me and it needs to stay reliable ya know. How much more HP can I get with just a tune?

well with your mods, i see people get around 300whp+. Forced induction, Stage 1 supercharger should get you around 400+whp. TT you can get easily 450whp

joshs09slvrZ 09-26-2011 07:53 PM

Hmm...choices choices lol. Not that I can buy now...but what's your price for stage 1 SC?

Jamaica 09-26-2011 08:05 PM

stage 1 is around 6500

Got it! Well probably just a tune for now then.

A tune, intake and cat-back will net a solid 25-30rwhp gain which is the average for most people. I put down 310rwhp and 259wftlbs with the Stillen G3 intake, tune, and Berk HFCs. A number of other 370Zs put down similar numbers with similar mods on the same dyno.

Now that I have the FI cat-back, I need to re-dyno and have the tune tweaked a bit but I hope to see around 320rwhp which is about the most you will get with full bolt ons and a tune. In my opinion, it is the perfect amount of power for this car for a balance of power, control and balance.

My dream is the GTM stage 2 supercharger though lol.

Haha...I thought for a couple months that I would get my car SC'd at some point...but now I don't think it's worth it. I've ready about 4 pages worth in the tuning section and I at least know I want to do UpRev...but now I have way more questions about it haha. I think I'm done with the modifying so it's probably a good time for a tune.

Im confused, you were only at 504 whp, why did yours go boom? Also confused because I was told by someone in high reguards to run 500hp which is my goal will cost me just as much as a STG 2 SC.

Transmission went boom because there was lack of oil in the transmission. The transmission lines had to be relocated. During that process, it was leaking fluid. The transmission was running on less fluid, causing the transmission to go out. When the dealership drained the oil, there were shavings on the transmission in the oil. When they showed it to me i was in shock.

Do you really believe that changing exhausts will increase your overall HP, by +11whp?
I am more inclined to believe that it will only net you a few extra ponies at the most.

*Do you have a dyno of the 309whp pull?*

joshs09slvrZ 09-27-2011 06:34 PM

So I wanted to give an update. I decided to not go with the headers and get a tune instead. I talked to a guy here in Tampa (Z Fever) and they quoted me $595 which will include the license and tune. He said I'll get about 15 dyno pulls and it'll take about 2 hours to do the entire UpRev tune. Two questions, first what is Osiris and Cipher? Second, what have you guys done with your stock exhaust? I'd like to sell mine and cover the cost of this tune.

Thanks for any help!

Try S&R also.

Jordo! 09-27-2011 06:48 PM

Sent you a PM...

People practically give the stock exhaust away.

Keeping in mind the heat and humidity of Tampa, you should be able to see about 300 +/-5 to the tire with bolt on's.

Check out my dyno thread (Proven Power dyno thread) for details. Email my buddy (see PM) for more info.

Friend of mine mentioned them as well. What did they charge you?

Thanks for the info! I emailed him as well.
