Why were you bashing Stillen earlier in this thread for having CARB approval and going on about how it's irrellevant if you don't live in California, but then go on to make excuses for why GTM didn't have CARB approval.

I know this thread is something like 5 months old, but I went to GTM's website and it still doesn't look like their kit has CARB certification.

Something like 80% of the US population lives in areas that do have emissions testing and inspection. The CARB sticker will get you through any of those inspections.

I posted in the GTM thread twice regarding the CARB approval.
First post was ignored, follow up post was deleted.. I had only asked how many GTM kits had previously been CARB certified.

They recently posted that all their parts have been approved. I can definitely see it happening. It is a slow and arduous process, unfortunately.

I take it you have to go through all the same BS if you put a turbo on as well? Glad I live in the mid west....fewer people means fewer BS rules

Turbo system will simply not be approved in cali. I remember JWT trying for years to get their twin turbo on the 350Z approved, don't think it ever happened.

Damn that sucks...Just don't under why they have to be so anal about modding the car. As long as we don't remove the catalytic converter then we're golden in Missouri...at the same time if you know the right people...inspection....we don't need no inspections.

We have a simple exhaust test where they...you know...test what comes out of your tailpipe. To a logical person without an agenda, that should be the end-all of emissions testing. If the goal is met, who gives a rats *** what the engine/exhaust is doing to get it. Methinks Cali has other things in mind and other axes to grind with their emissions standards.

I agree...Unless your car is spitting out tons of black smoke what's the big issue. I can understand the smog issues but it seems more like a plot just to get even more money because I'm sure it's not free.

New York doesn't even do emissions on OBD II cars anymore, its simply a scan for codes and visual inspection (kick the tires)

This is exactly the point. I'm actually not sure what they are doing is technically legal. My car shouldn't fail it's emissions test based on a visual inspection if it in fact is well below the emissions standard, which, btw, is VERY low. My STi--with absolutely no emissions equipment--very nearly passed the sniffer. I could have probably tuned it on the spot to get it to pass. If OEMs can make turbo cars, then there should not be anything to prevent a well-made aftermarket turbo kit on a non-OEM turbo car. It's the stupid California legislature which is corrupt and incompetent.

It has a nice mid range to top end pop. They are definitely working with my installer to make it better.

It's a centrifugal supercharger, of course low end boost is lacking. That's by design.

Yes however even centrifical blowers make some boost down low.and i still think there is more that can be done with VVEl mapping with Stillen kit.

I still think Stillen is the way to go as non carb legal kits are a hassle when smog time comes. I do appreciate the hard work Stillen put into getting CARB certification I just hope I can get carb legal hp numbers closer to what I have seen from other installs.. And truly if your not worried about carb why not just do proper twin turbo?

Having spent more time with their kit it does work well the tune just needs a wee bit of tweaking. I think I will have some real improvements soon with my carb legal tune.
