Passing NJ Inspection with an F/I Z???
I'm looking to do a 370z F/I project once I graduate college. Looking to do a twin turbo kit to make anywhere from 600-800rwhp. But the real question is will I pass inspection in jersey? I know they've really been cracking down especially in jersey and i'm going to have to be running a lot richer to run the turbo setup I assume.

I posted this up a while ago and i'm still thinking about it (probably less power though, or maybe a supercharger). But either way can anyone answer the question on passing NJ emissions legally with a TT setup pushing decent RWHP numbers(400+)?

I highly doubt it! You can go to those "other shops" and get your inspection sticker. They have mirrors to check for cat converters and a video camera to check under your car. Of course, lets not forget the Emission OBD II check. I was at the NJ inspection station 2 days ago for my dad's car, and now they lift the front of the car. They installed a machine that raises your front end by pushing on your oil pan area. I was like . I hope they DON'T do that to the Z in 4 year because if there's any damage, I'm calling Mr. Corzine!

damn, nj is just getting worse and worse for this stuff... So everyone here that is/will be running a TT set up in NJ is doing it illegally then? That sux...
I guess a S/C set up wouldn't be any better then? |

Agreed. That's your best bet. We're not talking about any illegal papers or anything, but Z clubs should have folks in them who know where to go for help. Shops that, in the event that the car fails, will provide insight and a realistic, tuner-friendly solution. Unlike Jiffy Lube and others that will just tell you to take a hike.
Even if there aren't any of those, what about some high-flow cats? I've never installed any or tried them, but on paper they sound great. -Clay

hey if you had cats on there and no check engine lights then you have no worries...or weld shields to the test pipes... i work for the inspection since 2002...
also on another note, the lift pushes up on your front subframe or contril arms...theres no harm, they lift vettes, older G's and z's....miatas, lol...everything...but me lift a car?? haha umm yea ok..... Last edited by njlakeshoreg; 07-11-2009 at 04:22 PM. |

lol..theres no chip inside the sticker...there is a bar code, thats all... ur only option really would be a collector sticker, where you would only have to have the odometer working, its easy to do... |

I feel sorry for you folks that have "emissions tests" as a requirement. Here in the great white (and unpolluted) north, we have nothing. No check for altered (or lack of) cats, no tail pipe sniffer tests.... absolutely nothing.
We do have "insurance inspections". But they are only required when the vehicle is over 10 years old. And that's only to get insurance, not for government requirements. Ahhhh,... to be backward is bliss!!
