Turbo kit has a larger intercooler that replace the front bumper brace to fit. This leaves a good amount of room between the IC and AC condenser. The SC system uses a smaller IC that tucks in behind the factory brace, and not leaving much room for the cooler. Going in front of the IC on the SC cars would be an option but it would be at the cost of some cooling to the IC, AC and cooling systems.

To the OP my suggestion would be to first open up the fender line to allow the hot air to exit, and better yet would be to duct air from the bottom of the car up with a small spoiler, and again a cut out in the fender line to allow the air to flow that direction. Similar to what the Corvette, Trans Am, or other cars with no grill opening use to direct air to their radiators.

If I remember correctly, Ty (the tech who performed the install) pulled a plug to verify it was right for the application. So I used the factory spark plugs.

I am working on a plan to open up the fender liner hopefully this weekend. It was only 102 yesterday and I could see a difference between the day before which was 107.

And to answer your question about location, I think GTM located the Rotrex cooler and the oil cooler there as it was the best location that had empty space.

Here is a shot of the bumper cut out and all you see is IC.


Here is a shot of the driver side of the bumper where the Rotrex and oil cooler reside. They are effectively to the right of the IC in in a pocket of the bumper with little to no airflow.


I am going to add the SPAL fan and temperature controller and see what better temps I can obtain.


In addition I am probably going to order the Greddy turbo cast aluminum oil pan to see if it fits with the NISMO under tray. It has cooling fins and adds extra oil capacity. I just do not know if it will fit without cutting up something. I don't know yet. You can see the pan at the bottom of this photo. That is not my car but another forum member's I believe who had the Greddy turbo kit installed.
This is mine and i was just looking at the thread. I never had oil cooler put on because the oil pan did the job....until this summer where i was up to 250 quite often. Added custom oil cooler and i cant get it over 220 and im all over dallas/plano area almost everyday if you want to see the kit i have.

Cool and thanks for the reply. I would like to check out your ride sometime. After a lot of digging, I think the Greddy pan WILL fit with the GTM filter relocation and the NISMO under tray. I finally found a left and right picture. Comparing those to the shot with your motor and the Greddy pan, it appears to be a fit. The filter side easily clears and the left side looks good.

I think I am going to order one. I was giving serious consideration to the A.M. Performance piece but I have not heard back from them about availability. Plus I am having a hard time justifying the price of admission.

My plan this weekend is to vent the fender lining. I will post up pictures and a DIY if it turns out nice. With the vent and the Greddy pan, I am not sure I will need the SPAL fan. I am hovering at 220-230 just going down the DNT and down 190 to 75. If get into boost, I can easily get to 240-250. I think I will start with the vent and the pan before adding the fan.

So far the SC is great. I found a decent stretch of vacant road yesterday at lunch and went sideways on the 1-2 shift with VDC off. It was awesome but I was glad I had 3 empty lanes to recover LOL.

The car drives hot and my tuner and the install tech agree. From a cold start even in the morning (I work 6a-3p) when it is in the high 80's the car warms up to 220-230 fairly quickly. I am hesitant to really test out the SC until I get these temperatures sorted. Not sure about the SPAL fan just yet. The pan and vent maybe enough. Have to wait and see.

However, I am happy with the fit, finish, and performance of the Stage 1 kit even with the heat. I wish the oil cooler worked better out of the box but it is what it is. I live in a hot area and the bumper limits air flow to the cooler. What else can I say?

I have not really gotten to test the car fully, but I like what I have experienced so far. I still need to tweak some things like fabricate something for the windshield washer reservoir and vent the driver side fender lining, but I am happy so far with the kit.

Just cut a big hole in the black part under the bumper cover on the side of the oil cooler, and direct the air from under the car up to the oil cooler.

I say try the Greddy pan before cutting holes on the car, even if they are not visible. If it doesn't provide enough cooling then add the fan and vent the fender liner. That's what I would do.

Happy to see you have good throttle response with all this heat (air and oil). My car, in stock form, lag quite a bit with the high temps.

One thing i did think of, you may double check the oil line routing. If these got reversed on accident, it will cause the oil temps to be higher than normal. The oil filter doesn't like to flow oil backwards for some reason. Kind of a long shot, but I've seen it done once before.

I plan on cutting a hole and pop riveting a louvered section in this weekend. A spare fender lining is about $65 from Courtesy Nissan and I live 15 minutes from them. So no big deal if I do not like it or it turns out bad. I realize I could just Dremel out louvers or drill out a grid of holes but I think the louvered section looks better and has a better chance of deflecting out road debris.

When I decided to go FI, I had ordered a 34R from Z1 but cancelled it. Sam said it would not work with the oil filter relocation kit. I think it probably would fit, and all I would need are custom oil hoses. Or it might interfere with the Rotrex fluid cooler, I don’t know. I went with the GTM oil cooler kit because Sam guaranteed it would all work seamlessly together. But I agree that the larger cooler would probably help with heat dissipation.

I only really notice the lag on the way home when it is well over 100 outside. I cannot wait for some cooler weather.

I will have to check this out when it is on the lift for the Greddy oil pan install. Thanks for the tip.

I have not really had a chance to really get on it hard and test the car. The first days I had the car back were on a very conservative, rich tune. I was getting 11 MPG. It also has been hotter than h@ll where I live.

I have now had the car a week with a good tune and as of today got almost 17 MPG. Normal driving is a drastic difference because there is a huge amount of power and torque available. The rush of air you here is sweet. I turned of VDC and went sideways during a 1-2 shift one day this week.

If you ask me, it is the way the car should have come from Nissan. I have not gotten to fully thrash the car and won’t until I solve my oil temp issues but so far the car rocks. The few really hard accelerations were impressive and definitely put a smile on my face.
