Default FI guys, how hard are your beating on your cars

So I have been told that I shouldnt expect to beat on the car when i get it back since it really cant handle the 500hp. So my question is who here is driving there car at what psi all the time and not affraid on beating on the car while driving.

I boosted up 2 times first and 2nd and I was told I beat on the car like I stole it LOL in my mind thats NOTHING at all.

So please tell me your thoughts. How much PSI your running all the time and how much you beat on the car while driving.

I beat the crap out of my old G35. On 8psi, the car made around 350whp. I had over 180 drag passes and had plenty of fun daily driving it. The car had 113k miles on it, with 50k miles boosted on the stock motor. It's all in the TUNE.

If you are always worried about blowing the motor everytime you put your foot to the floor, you won't fully enjoy the car.

yes thats what I am saying, If I cant beat on the car im not going to enjoy the 15k ive pissed into the tt setup. I know see why so many guys just go ahead and get a GTR.

I see way more 370z TT setups over the G so again thats why im asking you guys.

Why TT if I cant even beat on it every once in a while. My G isnt even a dd and I only drive the car once a week if that.

Beat the **** out of my TT 350 and 370. Floor thru the gears at least 10 times a day and never turn down a worthy race. If it blows up, it wasn't tuned properly for your level of abuse. The more you want to beat on it and the higher the power, the more conservative and better you need the tune to be. 7 years of TT in my 350 and it never broke down or blew up, and I just sold it. Ran the stock DE motor at 9psi 470rw then built it for more... Just sold the car still running although after all those years it's a little worn and 3 cyl have some leakdown... But that motor went 5 years of beating. In the 370 I went 3000 miles of beating the **** out of it at 450rw and just yesterday cranked it to 524rw and plan to go a little further yet before building the engine this winter. If it blows up at this power than it's because my self tuning, not because the motor can't handle it. Right now she blows the tires off thru second and squirms thru 3rd and feels great. Key is to always watch the tune. Aftermarket tunes need updating frequently as climate etc change so stay on top of it and log it often and research what your target AFs and timing should be under various circumstances. Neglect the tune and expect to boom. On a cool night that's 20 degrees colder than the car was tuned it can make 20+ more HP, even more if the boost creeps up a little. That's more than enough to end up in places on the maps that may have never been tuned live. Temp corrections can also take you off par. Gotta watch the gauges and log like a freak when boosting an 11:1 motor with fragile internals.

With these engines there is a very thin line between perfect tune and bent rods. I wouldn't trust any tune under all conditions. The greatest way to increase likeliness of a blown engine is to just set-it-and-forget-it. High strung NA engines make real fun turbo motors but they don't need much an excuse to leave you with a $5000 rebuild

Keep in mind that although this engine has an 11:1 static compression, the dynamic compression is much lower then that . Especially with the valve lift and duration that the VVEL does and that is one of the reason thees engines like timing and have a higher detonation threshold then the older gen engines .

As for tuning this engine and sense we are tuning via MAF, Yes you can set it and forget it as long you have the right MAF curve, remember we are measuring grams/s of air and to have a little more air on cool night or less air on hot day is all within the ecu capabilities of compensation and achieving its AFR targets. These ecus are very consistent.

You have more faith in a canned tune than I do! But I am not as used to MAF tuning as you are. It's true that I am used to having to deal with correction tables etc to handle that business... But I won't be as comfortable until i witness more. I'm finding some inconsistancies, and until I figure out the source of them, I have to assume there are more tables in the ecu than I can see. And to set-it-and-forget it isn't something I would call risky only because of my consistency concerns, but because that is assuming that the car was perfectly tuned the first time.

Interesting Phunk, it sounds like you have good success on your FI cars. I would like to hear more about the technical aspects of things you have been mentioning.

I've got 3000+ boosted miles and I'm not easy on it. Well see how long it lasts but I'm not too worried. I will be starting a stroker motor fund for the future.

I was running 8psi 24/7 and had two drag strip events with many passes. I also drove it in a very spirited way for over 3000 miles. Many people said I would have problems and yet I had NONE! I also had the 7AT....no issues there either.
