Stillen vortech charger kit

Ive got a few questions in regards to this kit.. first question, ive searched and read most of the threads regarding this kit.. So basically I havent heard to many good things about the stillen tune, which is fine bcause ill be going with a third party tune. The question i have is, am i able to use the stillen tune to get me to the shop that'll be tuning it? And also with the stillen tune, is the shop im going to for tuning, going to be able to tune this car with out the stillen custom tuning package? The reason im going with the stillen kit is the company i manage has an account with them, so gtm's price point was AlOT higher.
thanks guys.

Kirkster 07-05-2011 10:38 AM

You should be fine with the kit. You should be fine getting the car to your tuner with the Stillen canned tune. not sure about the stillen custom tuning package but I am thinking that it is an UpRev tune. A reputable tuner will probably be able to do a good uprev tune.

Good luck. Boost is good...

EVOHUNTER 07-05-2011 11:04 AM

Im hoping this will be the case, the guy im bringing it to is uprev certified..
what kind of numbers u putting down kirkster, if u dont mind me asking? :)

weiboy718 07-05-2011 11:12 AM

Where do you see the GTM price higher than the Stillen?

^^ we deal with stillen alot at our shop, so i got cost on the kit which is alot below retail.

tomnavone 07-05-2011 11:32 AM

alright, get it. Some people made very good numbers with that kit and has proven to work great on a few car's. You should ask them to see if they can throw in the 9lbs pulley instead of the 8lbs.

EVOHUNTER 07-05-2011 11:50 AM

hey weiboy, i did obtain a 9lb pulley, im at 2500 above sea.. so i thought maybe the 9lb would be the best bet. I really hope this doesnt turn into a nightmare :S.. i thjink it was you weiboy that was having problem with ur stillen kit? What where your problems?
did u end up going with the gtm?

Yeah, I did had some problems with it and I shouldn't start talking about it again lol. There should be more than enough info on the FI threads. I switched kits since January, much much better and fun now

Mr.Squeeze 07-05-2011 12:16 PM

You can use the Stillen tune to get to the shop that is going to tune your car. However the Stillen tune is locked so you your tune would have to be done from scratch.

Can most upRev tuners do this? I guess i should just contact him and get some further info on this.

Ron 07-05-2011 12:24 PM

Can I get a kit at cost? :D

it takes time to tune a car... thats where going to the right tuner will lead you.

Weiboy pushed me away from the Stillen s/c kit... I look back and wish I jumped on it back then before Mr Squeeze did

fuct 07-05-2011 01:39 PM

i think even if the stillen kit was a grand or two less id still stick with the GTM kit....

:iagree:

and just cause it cheaper doesnt mean its better

EVOHUNTER 07-05-2011 02:23 PM

I wanted the gtm TT but was way outta my price range, the gtm supercharger was my second pick but like i said the price point allowed me to buy a clutch, flywheel, oilcooler, and half my coilovers, and came to the same price as the gtm. dont get me wrong i wanted to gtm but oh well.

Liquid_G 07-05-2011 02:34 PM

Going back to your original question, I would think as long as you stay out of boost you should be fine getting to your shop.

EVOHUNTER 07-05-2011 02:55 PM

the drive is like 2 hours away, all highway/freeway driving. im just waiting on a call back from my tuner, so i can let him know hes going to have to make a full tune, im pretty sure i stated this when i talked with him a few weeks ago.. he said around 900 bucks to tune it, sound right?
also, liquid G are u running the gtm?

Mr.Squeeze 07-05-2011 04:18 PM

You can keep the car out of boost on the 2 hour drive you have to take.I did the same thing with my car with just a base map not even Stillen's tune. Just baby all the way down there just don't full throttle at all.

shumby 07-05-2011 04:24 PM

Yes they can it shouldn't be a problem for him to do. You have the right idea give him a call.

RCZ 07-06-2011 09:26 AM

Should be easy to tune the kit. If you CAN put on the stillen base map and use that to drive down, that would be ideal. Just don't push the car because the tune is made for 8psi and you have the 9psi pulley..

Yah what i did was used the 8psi to get me there, i droped it off this monring at 6 am, had them install the 9psi pulley. with the stillen canned tune the car ran great! surprisingly lol, with the stillen tune i got 397whp-296-tq at 7.6psi pulley
-with the up rev i pulled off 451 whp 312 tq at 8.8 psi - 9 psi pulley
my baseline was 302whp- 237 tq -intake, hi flow cats, cbe.
ill have the dyno sheets up later tonight or early morning, i cant wait to go get it, leaving working in 1 hour to go grab it :D

great numbers especially the whp. TQ is a little low but I'm sure you can get more out of it
