come back when you have road course time, and 200+ passes.

Highway pulls are pretty easy on the car compared to a standing QM or M.

Nismo370 05-29-2011 11:29 AM

No they are not easier. I don't road race my car its not a track car. Top end pulls put way more stress on the motor than 1/4mile runs.

Nismo370 05-29-2011 11:31 AM

5000 hard miles so far...

:wtf2:

Top end pulls are rough on the trans...

Nismo370 05-29-2011 11:35 AM

You think 140 150 160 170mph pulls are easier on the motor? Smh your crazy if you think that. The motr is seeing a tremendous amount of stress doing that.

Lmfao smh...you smoking that boston george reefer huh lol.

Nismo370 05-29-2011 11:39 AM

Those high speed pulls can melt the pistons, a lot of heat smh.

Red__Zed 05-29-2011 11:44 AM

It's a slightly heavier load on the engine at speed. It's not terribly rough on it. If your car is actually fast, you will be hitting high speed in the SQM, and definitely in the SM...

:bowrofl:

I would take bets on which part of your car would fail first on a trackday....although I don't think we would really find out since the car would go into limp mode before you could blow anything up.

I'm kidding, it would totally last, chill out! 11:1 Twin turbo car with an automatic transmission is BULLETPROOF. Everybody knows that.

Red__Zed 05-29-2011 11:56 AM

My last drag car was doing ~160 at the end of a SQM. Seemed to not be that much rougher than when it had been trapping only 145 or so.

Nismo370 05-29-2011 12:12 PM

We aren't talkin bout your last drag car, we are talking about a boosted 370z with a stock block please keep the car at hand on discussion thanx.

You are making the claim that a high speed pull is somehow significantly rougher on the engine. I'm telling you that with several rebuild of my F20 (F25?), several hundred drag passes trapping 145 treated it about the same as trapping 160, as well as doing some standing miles.

Red__Zed 05-29-2011 12:15 PM

Pretty sure that is relevant, unless you think the VQ is different in some way...

Nismo370 05-29-2011 12:25 PM

You cannot compare to different motors, and I'm going to leave it at that.

So getting damaged by high speed pulls is a unique characteristic to the VQ?

:icon18::icon18::icon18: what's this story of your life with the 7AT all over the place? Everyone is now well aware as to how great the 7AT transmission handles on the Z whether FI or not, would you like a cookie or some?

You got a cool car that can handle a lot, beat the crap out of your car and have fun with it. Take it easy on the capital letters orgies dude, we got your point.

I've been running around my condo holding my supercharger making boost noises, I estimate I'm making somewhere around 600rwhp and my dog has seen me do numerous hard launches from the living room to my office. So far I'm a bit tired but theres no signs of compression loss and my leak down is consistent at ~8% across the board. I've sent out a urine sample to blackstone to examine for any metal shavings/signs of bearing failure. In conclusion everyone needs to chill out.

Where is your time slips?

Nismo370 05-29-2011 10:31 PM

In my draw. Believe me they are not worth posting, the best time I could muster up was a 13.3 @ 119. Track prep was horrible, I had bald tires, and had massive wheel hop 1st and 2nd gear. Only did 89mph in the 1/8 and picked up another 30mph on the 2nd half of the track.

You should take it out again with some better tires and maybe a better track

Mkai0 05-30-2011 04:28 AM

Nismo370, I bet it's a beast on the highway though!

Nismo370 05-30-2011 08:07 AM

Yeah ill go back to the track soon...and yeah its def a beast on the highway.

From sheer overpower? With a perfect tune?

Who knows? It won't be known until someone breaks a piston.

I think a rod would go first.

I thought they were forged and pretty meaty --- incorrect?

How thick are the ringlands on our pistons? With enough power, the rings themselves could fail too.

Yup... I broke a pistion in my z...and it ain't even boost yet..

So my money is deff on a ring gland or burnt piston.

"How much power do you think Is safe on stock internals?"

Answer: jnaut is just over the limit. :bowrofl:

shadow85 12-18-2016 06:52 PM

Oh this thread is funny.

Can't wait to get my FI done on my Z. I will be going stock internals and shooting for 450-500 whp, I don't care if it blows lol and I am on 7AT.

We will see if all the naysayers are correct or not.

JSur 12-19-2016 11:40 AM

Cars been pushing 500+whp for just about 20k miles. No major issues. Not my daily driver, I don't beat the **** out of it but I don't baby it either. It's being used and maintained properly and she's been good to me
