I'll post a video later tonight when I get home from work around 11pm. I gave a few videos made of the noise. I changed the oil Friday night after 1800 miles. The oil had 0 shavings in it Quote:

Hopefully its just a bad head gasket and you just need to replace with a thicker/Stronger gasket.
The tech may be thinking vvel since its what our car uses to operate the intake valves which is what I was sort of thinking. my question is, if it is the actual mechanical vvel components did you just hit the boost limit for this car and how could these components be strengthened. I would defiantly baby baby the car guess we will find out soon enough... Last edited by VQStryker; 10-10-2011 at 01:32 PM. |

Not sure who sells them pre-made for our specs, but virtually any company will make you custom rods and pistons if you send them a stock one to copy. Custom forged pistons are probably $600 a set and custom rods can vary heavily depending on specs (H-Beam, I-Beam, A-Beam, manufacturer, material, rod bolts, etc) but are likely $600-$800 for a premo set.
Carrillo makes amazing connecting rods and Ross Racing and Wiseco make strong forged pistons. You should consider though that the engine needs to be rebalanced very precisely since the rotating mass is changing from factory and the redline is quite high.

Yeah 600 might work for four cylinders but our v6s run the price up.

Just because GTM is a grand for the rods doesnt mean everyone is. My buddy had Carrillo make a forged set of a-beam rods for a 3.8 v6 (meaning 6 rods...) turbo firebird and paid $750 total. His pistons were $680 or so from Ross Racing with thermal coating on the tops.
You can pay as much as you want, but its does not mean you cant get quality for less money. You could easily spend $2000 on rods if you wanted to, or you can spend $750 and get a good set too. Quoting common vendor websites or pretending that only GTM's on the shelf options are available is a bit naive, but to each his own.

Not worked up, just correcting your suggestion that a V6 necessitates spending more than what I quoted, although you certainly can as you showed.
