over heating issue (40th 370z TT KIT)
Hi everyone , my name is moe am a new member in his forum ,and am a proud owner of a 370z 40th annivesary GTM twinturbo kit 1 .i bought his car and shipped it over seas from a close friend of mine , it arrived today,i am very well expereinced with high performance cars , so having a car at 469whp on a mustang dyno wasnt so WOOOOW , but i loved the drivibiliy , but still spools faster than anything i saw in my life and the power is almost there when you need it , finally gettin to the point , where i am it was 100f today its not that hot it reaches 120-130 f , i wasnt driving hard on the car or anything, and parked in front of the house with the ac for 15 min i saw the gauge and its 3 dots passed middle so it was 2 dots behind the HOT , i was surprised because the coolent level is checked , new with waterwetter , meshimoto thermosate and hoses , and the car has around 8000miles and the build has 2000miles or so ,the car still smells new , is this normal ? or do i have to think of changing the radiator also? but am surprised because am sure it gets 100f in the USA and no one every mentioned temps going passed middle , ohh the oil temps around 205-210 max , all help and feed back are appreciated , plz excuse my english since its not my first language .. thank you , and GOD BLESS GTM hehehehe
P.S PLZ DONT TAKE THIS AS A COMPLAIN ON GTM KIT, THIS IS ME ASKING FOR KNOWLDGE ONLY ,the car is one the best i drove in my life , and i am on the way to build a stage 2 or higher infinity with the help of SAM once i see how good this kit is in our hot climate. Definitely not normal. Given that your oil temps are 210F or so, this is purely a radiator/coolant system issue and not an overall cooling issue.
I'd start by checking the coolant level when the engine has cooled down. When you remove the radiator cap, it should be pretty much filled to the brim. Also, your overflow reservoir should be between the Max and Min (fill to the Max when you're sure the rest of the system is full). If both of those levels check out, there is an air purge valve at the top of the radiator, passenger side. Have some towels ready to catch overflow, and then open the screw to the purge to ensure there's no air in there. If no coolant comes out, pour coolant into the radiator fill spout until there is overflow, and then close the purge. Run the motor for 5 min, shut it down, let it cool, and recheck the level in the radiator spout. Fill to full again. If all that checks out, then you may have a bad water pump. Any CEL or codes when you scan the car? The water temp gauge is ALWAYS one dot below middle once the car comes up to temp. It's also a terrible gauge and doesn't budge from that LED unless temps are WAAAAY off normal. You should be able to read exact coolant temps with a ScanGauge or similar to know where you really stand. Keep us posted.

This car is currently running DISTILLED WATER / and AN ADDITIVE to replace factory engine coolant. Could that be the reason why is doing this? There are no CEL's or anything.

100 degree weather is very common in the states, You have a mechanical issue, It could be as simple one like system is low on fluid or a bad thermostat all the way to major problem like a head gasket . For the car to over heat while it is idling, Its is defiantly a mechanical problem.
Best of luck Sam |

well guys , i stayed in the car at 9 pm its cooler than the afternoon weather ,with ac on, and the temps stayed in the middle it was before the mid in one dot and after 5 min to an hour it stayed exactly on the mid, hmmmm
the car is perfect maybe it was just too hot , i dont know so i guess their is no mechanical issue , but i might try taking it to the dealership and let them check it all out and replace the coolent with our coolent that sell here and our thermostate maybe just maybe our thermostate for the middle east wether is different than your stock ones, and better than the meshimoto thermostat, SAM their is no headgasket issue cuz the car is fine when the weather is cooler, wht i noticed is the temprature montior is stuck or something cuz it stayed on 100f (37c) all the time and at night it was 99f which is abt the same but actully i am 10000% it was colder than that and i am sure it was hotter than 100f , maybe around 110-115, and i made sure by goin in a different car and the temp monitor says 26c , so for sure the monitor is crazy or maybe still not used for our crazy temps hehehehe its goin like---> WT*** IS THIS heheheheheh i might try the idea abt checking the air in the radiator sounds somethin fun to do or i might just leave it as is til i get it to the dealer ship and let them deal with it . P.S guys i just wana clear out the issue that i shared with with you ppl has nothing to do with GTM KIT or anything like that , i wasnt pointing at anyone, i am just sharing with u my wht happened , and although i am 1000000000 miles and dont know GTM personally , this kit is the best TT i ever tried in my life ,words cant express wht i wana say ,u will only find out when you try it and only when the wastegates are open all i need is more power , i need more.. thank you for replying back to me so fast,i never thought id be welcomed like this . |

Hmmm, interesting that it maintained normal operating temps when the A/C is on as both the primary and secondary fans are automatically activated when you turn the A/C on. The primary fan should cycle on and off without the A/C on, but if it doesn't that could cause overheating.
When it was overheating, did you have the A/C on then too? Have you checked the oil for any evidence of coolant?

when the ac turned off it cooled down abit, but icouldnt stay much longer so i left it was too hot , but i cant say that its overheating but i dont know where will it stop if it would have !! i saw it jumpd 2-3 dots passed the normal range when i saw that and i turned off the ac to see wht will happen , and it cooled down so i switched the car off .
later at night i did the same thing with the ac on for an hour and nothing happened . it was in the middle all the time .it means nothing was wrong but the qustion here is !!! why did it jump 3 dots then ? was it because it was too hot ? is it true the all twinturbo cars are not ment to be in very hot climates?? or is it a technical thing that comes and goes!! but still it wasnt tooooooo hot we are still in april , the max it could have gone is 38-39c , in august where am from it reached 55-60c EAZEEEEEEE!! that means i cant even ride the car no more , so something must be done and checked , if u read u will notice i already changed a couple of stuff , but maybe i need to do some other check ups and changes . ill keep u guys updated so all of your guys in hot climates know whts up . |

ohh and i checked the oil , their is nothing wrong , pure oil, the collent reservoir is a bit low but not that low , the radiator cap was full when i took the cap off , so i might try to do the air check thingy someone advised me to do , then i might stop getting into a mental status and just spend money and give the case to the dealer to check it out and give them this

from your location i take it you are in the middle east. if im not mistaken all the Z's shipped to that area had much more robust cooling systems. oil cooler, powersteering cooler ect..... just an idea....

Could be the exact reason for problems especially if he didn't use enough water wetter. I know one bottle is enough to make a difference on a normal system, but you need a couple if i remember the chart correctly to make a difference on a car running pure water.
