ZSpeed CSC
Hey guys, I finally picked up my z yesterday after getting my TT installed, but had to bring it almost straight back to the garage. As I was driving, the clutch all of a suffer got about 3 inches of free play. Apparently it's a problem with the CSC, and they can't bleed it for some reason (they said the blessed is on the bottom or something)
Anyone else have this issue?? |

the bleeder is on the bottom of the car yes but no reason why it can't be bled unless they just dont know what the hell they are doing, that said when this happens your csc is usually shot because the oring in the base of it(which can't be replaced) blows out. Time for some warranty action to have the tranny pulled and the csc replaced.

Yes they are pain to bleed, I have even had to bleed them for another shop. You need a vacuum bleeder on some occasions.

So as I got in the car today, the clutch felt a bit better. It still had a lot of free-play, but I could at least getit in gear. After driving it for about 20 minutes, I noticed that the Pedal started slowly creeping back up. After another hour of driving, it went back to being perfectly normal. Has been all day. Drove for about an hour since them, no problems. Tried shutting the car off and letting it cool for about a half hour, still got in and the pedal was perfect.
What gives?!? |

i bled mine in my driveway in 5 minutes with a $10 brake vacuum pump kit from autozone there is no excuse for a shop that can't do it.

So is the plan to get the Zspeed metal CSC? I am a kinda on the fence about that one though. Not really sure that it addresses the actual issue. Which clutch are you using? I have been looking long and hard at the OS Giken twin plate, only because it offers more surface area to grip without additional clamping force (and that it is rebuildable). My buddy has one on his 88 Supra and it is the money. I also have one on my 240SX w/ 1JZ swap, but I haven't driven it yet with that setup. Maybe after this next deployment...........

hmm, I got the same problem. The shop cant bleed the CSC properly.... and at the end I have to swap back to stock CSC.
Any DIY to do this?

sure 1. buy cheap vacuum bleeder for 10 dolla 2. get under car 3. fill reservoir 4. loosen the bleeder a bit 5. hook cheap vacuum pumper up to bleeder 6. pump until fluid starts going through clear tube attached to bleeder 7. pump until you don't see anymore air bubbles(make sure the bleeder is just loose enough to get fluid out and your tube is hooked up to the bleeder good. 8 tighten bleeder screw before taking off the pump 9. pump clutch a 5 or 6 times, if the pedal goes to the floor you may have to pull it up with your toe 10. crack the bleeder(with foot on clutch pedal) and let some of the fluid/air come out but try to tighten it before the pedal hits the floor 11. do this until firm (mix in some pedal pumping) 12. if you ran out of fluid at any point during this start over.

I think the shop tried that methods..., somehow they can not bleed it..., it hardly any fluid and/or air came out when they pump out the clutch. So as the result my clutch wont pop back 100%...., only 50-60%. They tried it for 2-3hrs twice. They accused that the CSC is faulty.... but I still give them the benefit of the doubt and installed back the stock CSC. I dont know how much longer the stock the CSC gonna last with my Stage 3 clutch Hope someone will find the culprit. Vinny: Could you please let me know if yours works fine after you re-bleed it?

How's the SB clutch and CSC feeling for daily driving? Are you still trying to break it in? I was told about the break in procedure, but wasn't sure how the clutch would cope with dyno tuning.

The CSC cannot be bled with a vacuum bleeder as they said they were doing, This is in the instructions sent with the slave, it says to NOT use a vacuum bleeder, It can damage the slave let alone never get the air out.
Sometimes you must adjust the clutch pedal to some degree (also in the instructions) to get the slave to push far enough to have the clutch push the air out of the system. If this is not done it will never get the air totally out and your pedal can change because of the trapped air. If it got better on its own, it sounds like the air may have worked its way out. |

Drove the car for about 2 hours today. For the first 45 minutes, it was perfect. Then, same thing happened again. The clutch pedal started coming up only half way. After driving it for another 20-25 minutes the clutch went back to normal. Any idea what can be causing this issue? It's also very difficult(impossible) to put the car in reverse when it's cold. I have to give it a decent push into third, then the other gears loosen up a little.
