Vinny's 370Z TT Build Thread
27 Attachment(s)
Hey everyone, thought it was time for me to start up my own build thread. So here it is: I will be updating this thread as the mods come.
To start with, here's a list of mods currently on the car, and a list of things to come, as well as future plans. - Stillen Catback Exhaust - QTP electronic Exhaust cutouts - Injen Intakes (No longer on the car) - Tinted windows - 19" Matte black Forgestar F14s - Hankook Ventus V12 EVO tires - Illuminated kickplates - Front Z Emblem (Painted matte black) - Fairlady Z emblem (Painted matte black) - HSD Coilovers - GTM resonated test pipes - Sports package brake upgrade - Sports package LSD - GTM stage 2 Twin Turbo - GTM Oil Cooler - Southbend Stage 4 clutch/Flywheel - Zspeed heavy duty CSC - AEM wideband - Defi Boost Gauge - HKS evc-6 Boost controller - HKS Turbo Timer - Custom Front Bumper - Matte black painted headlight shrouds On the way: - GTM built stage 1 Shortblock - 20mm Spacers Things to come: - Upgraded Fuel system - Short shifter - Custom Emblems ... And many more things I'm sure, but that's all I can remember for now. And here are the pictures I have of the build up until now: First off, let me say that I delt with Sam at GTM. The experience so far has been fantastic. He really knows what he's doing and is very helpful and professional. To anyone considering FI, or anything else for that matter, I would highly recommend giving him a shout. I'm getting all my work done at autoworx canada, the only place I trust here in montreal. They've worked with a few of my friends' skylines and do great work. I'm getting my exhaust manifolds ceramic coated, and many parts of the kit heat-wrapped, to help with the heat. In any case, that's all I got for now, I posted some pics of the parts taken out of the box. Didn't unwrap everything though. Cheers! ** January 15th, 2012 Update: Got my bumper finished up before putting the car into storage. I have a Stage 1 shortblock on the way from GTM, which should be in pretty soon, I placed the order at the end of July. I'm hoping to get it installed and tuned before car season comes back around here. We decided to go with 9:1 compression on the new block. Also added some pictures I took at the dyno. The dyno is compared to a 370Z with intake/exhaust. April 9th Update: Picked up the car last week, was having too much fun with it to come and give an update earlier :P Anyway, I'm really happy with everything. Giving the clutch/kit some time to break in, and going back to the shop in about 2 weeks to make sure everything is still running smoothly. Going to add a 11psi setting at that time as well, then head to the dyno to see what the beast can do. Pics updated! March 24th Update: Went by again today, things are almost finished up. There is a bit of wiring left to do on my boost controller and my turbo timer, along with mounting the gauges to the A pillar. I was told it should be done no later than Wednesday. I snapped a picture of the intercooler mounted while my car was on a lift, but that's all I could get, I didn't have much time to spare. March 4th update: I went by the shop yesterday to check out the progress, and pick up some of the stock parts they had taken out. I posted up some pics. I got a call after I left the shop, from the guy doing the install on my Z. He informed me that he was missing a piece, and could not continue without it. Turns out it was a flange he was missing, sort of a guide for the bolts I assume. So I double checked at home, and found nothing. I spoke to Sam briefly and he asked for the shop's number. A couple hours later, I got a call back from the shop, saying that Sam was over-nighting the part to them. Pretty incredible service, if you ask me. Also, my mechanic at Autoworx Canada had nothing but good things to say about the kit, and most of all, the installation instructions. He was also very impressed with the quality of service that Sam was providing. So all in all, my install is being delayed maybe a day or two, and I'm one happy camper! Thanks, Sam!! |
At least get some pictures of the parts haha.
CONGRAT's anyway. |
That's awesome, you have my dream parts list haha. Do you know when the Z will be ready?
|
sounds awesome in Montreal also would love to see the finished product!
|
hmm i find my self confused here. I thought turbo timers weren't needed with the GTM kit because it is cooled from the anitfreeze and the oil slightly? Some one educate me please. I am not saying it isn't a good thing to have just thought there was really no benefit of it. Either way I am not worried. I always let my car idle for a little bit before i shut it off.
Edit: BTW the most important thing. WELCOME TO THE TWIN TURBO FAMILY.yes the caps were needed because it is a big deal. We got another one boys make room in the ranks |
^You can get them as extra insurance, never hurts but they are not strictly necessary.
|
Also I am going to strongly urge you to get a boost controller. Look into the HKS EVC-S very inexpensive and very effective for the price. Please get it, not only will the car make more power because the waste gates wont flutter but it is a much safer and better way to monitor boost. It will monitor max boost for you if it spikes for a reason.

Awesome! I haven't heard much about the company developing the clutch....can anyone else or OP chime in with further info?

Damn, congrats...I'm pretty jealous haha. Hope you enjoy your beast once it's finally finished.
|
That sounds like a wish list to me but damn congrats on being a ballaaaaa, hollaaaaaa.
lol... Keep us posted Sir. |
Can't wait to see the numbers. I agree with you about GTM. I had to talk to them three times in the last two weeks and it still amazes me how much they enjoy talking to you about things. Even the small things.
|
Hey Toner, thanks for the reminder. I forgot to add my boost controller to the list, It's been updated now.
As far as pics go, i had plenty on my Iphone of all the parts. Sadly, that phone was stolen 2 days ago, along with all the info/pics inside. I'll make sure to take plenty of pictures as I unwrap everything at the garage today. And thanks for all the congrats, guys. I can't wait for my beast to be finished. :D |
And NYBlade, as for the clutch, I was told by a member here on the site who was also running a TT setup that this clutch setup was working well for him. I have a few friends that have O.S. geiken clutches in their skylines, and I just don't like the feel of them for some reason. I was told this clutch handles tons of power while retaining some element of driveability. I'll keep you guys updated with the performance of the clutch, as well as the rest of it. If the clutch doesn't work out, I may HAVE to go with OS Geiken :P
Cheers |
cool. I am probly heading down to Montreal for the spring. Definitely want to see your Z :tup:
|
You won't be disappointed with the Southbend clutch and HD CSC combo. Everyone who has tried mine just loves it, including me.
Congrats on the GTM TT kit also |
Congrats on the TT man.

|
In for updates! Also, send me a PM/text... interested about your coilovers.
|
All the money for a tt and no decent camera? :p
:worthless: |
It should be ready in about 3 weeks, according to the shop doing the mods for me.
|
You will be pleased. I had Z1 do mine, GTM TT state 2, and I love it. have stock clutch at present. Showed 508 WHP at 8.5 PSI. Looking for 540 soon, like when it;s warmer and I can put on summer tires. BTW, TT's on ice and snow do not help at all. Need a light foot. Sideways is not the way too travel. Got Quaife LSD also. Brakes same, suspension a bit different. Simply went Nismo.
|
Thanks for the info, blackbird! I most definitely won't be driving it until there is absolutely no snow on the ground, specially after the TT kit. Those are the numbers I'm shooting for as well, between 500-550 whp (leaning more towards 550, hopefully).
I'm passing by the shop tomorrow to see the progress, I'll snap some pics and post them up asap. |
can't wait to see the end result!
|
congrats on the new Major mod. you will LOVE it.. and trust me,, its worth every penny.
GTM stg 2 is a great choice for those who have high numbers down the road. DXD clutch is amazing... i have the Stage 5 ( 6 puck ) and it amazing. i would suggest you to add A/F guage. its one of my fav gauges and it gives u a warning if there is anything wrong with the tune, fuel system...whatever.. cause it shows how lean/rich is the mixture in your engine. it saved my engine many times. i had a problem in my fuel system and everything was showing Ok... but only on WOOT the A/F was going 12.5 so i took it to the tuner and he said glad u got it cause there was a problem in the fuel system and if i pushed couple of times more i would've lost my engine. good luck and keep us posted. |
Look forward to updates. My SB OFE Stage 4 clutch/flywheel combo arrived today (still waiting for the HD CSC). I'm assuming this is the same as yours, and I don't plan to push my car further than 450whp on the street. Please let me know how it goes for everyday driving... force fed.
|
Original post updated with some pics I took yesterday. You can see the ceramic coated manifolds, the brakes and coils are on and then engine is pulled. You can see the clutch on the bottom of the picture I took of the engine.
Starting to get antsy now!!! |
Have 508WHP from Z1. Car is fine for daily driver. This however no punching it in the winter, even with Snow Tires. For regular driving never know it was TT, until you press the loud button.
|
Looking forward to see this beast done.
|
Yay! Glad the brakes are in. Enjoy them dude, they served me well.

Man go with open dump setup on your TT. I loved it when I had it on my 350.
|
Hey man interested in hearing how the build is going. How is that stage 4 clutch?
|
Hey man, The clutch is awesome. I have nothing but great things to say about it. It's stiff and can handle the power, but not a pain in the a** to DD. The heavy duty CSC still acts up every once in a while, I'm taking my car back in to the shop that did the install on monday to fix it + have a checkup of the whole kit. At the same time, they will give me a high boost setting on my EVC-6, and hook up my turbo timer (we were missing the module for keyless go)
After I get that taken car of, it's off to the dyno for me! I can't wait to see what my Z can do, it sure feels like a beast already.. |
Update! Added pics and updated parts list.
|
Any reason you ordered the stage 1 short block? Something happened to the stock block?
|
Also, how is the electronic exhaust cutout working for you? Any leaks?
|
Nothing happened to the stock block, just got the shortblock for piece of mind, and because I'm shooting for 600whp. As for the cutouts, they are working great for me, mo leaks whatsoever. When tested on the dyno, they made a small amount of extra power (5-10whp). I do feel that the car is more responsive with the cutout closed when pulling through gears, though.
I do love having them, though. They sound fantastic (extremely loud) and coupled with the turbos, it's really unique. I love stopping at a light and herring the turbos spool down :) It's a great option for me, because I rarely like making that much noise, though. |
