I haven't even gotten close to half the price of a used GT-R yet. Besides, getting the Modding bug with a GT-R could get really expensive LOL!.

Unless based purely on personal preference, DCT > manual. The GTR DCT shift time is like 200ms.

sooo stillen or gtm supercharger?still havent really heard anything on this thread that pushes me either way(gtm or stillen),not many comments from anyone whos has installed a stillen charger at home,i plan to do it myself(mechanic) at home but really need to do my homework here cuz nobody seems to have installed a stillen at home,any help is much appreciated..thanks....

oh and if ur interested in a top speed family car buy toyota,just push the gas real hard and ur gone..sad

I have had both installed on my car. stillen was a total failure. I would say gtm is the way to go. There is someone doing a gtm diy right now search to forums

I won't comment on the end outcome because i don't have either kit on my personal vehicle so i can't tell you the day to day consequences (good or bad) of either kit, but i have worked on vehicles with both kits, so i will give you my impression.

The best way i can explain this is that the Stillen kit reminds me of a cheesy bolt on Honda Turbo "kit" You just kinda slap it on with some self tapping screws (course thread into composite plastic) and by molesting some factory brackets with a grinder. Not quite a complete solution in my eyes, it modifies a LOT of the car by cutting off tabs, bending coolant tubes (in the throttle body), and similar things to make the kit fit the car. You also have to extend several wires for the MAF sensors and one throttle body. Not a huge deal if you are good with wiring, but i don't like the fact that Stillen did not keep shielded wiring for the throttle body that has to be extended. (factory wiring is shielded all the way up to about an inch before the connector.)

The GTM kit is more in depth and would be more like converting a 300ZX NA --> TT with all factory parts. There is still a small level of factory components modified, but for the most part if the factory part didn't fit 100% perfect with the charger then they provide you with a new piece to take the place of it. GTM Does require you to extend 4 wires as well but its for the oil pressure gauge/switch, and its about 5" or so extension. Not quite as critical of a place as the MAFs and Throttle body.


In my opinion the best way to put it is Stillen made a kit that sort of fits the car, and expects you to cut your car up to fit their supercharger kit. GTM made more of a conversion that changes your car from NA to Supercharger trim, much like i would expect to purchase directly from the manufacturer if two engine options were offered.

I would recommend contacting both companies for copies of the installation manual, and take a look through them. This will give you a far better idea of what you are about to do to your car with either kit.

i really like the stillen kit but hear way to many people say bad things about the install procedure and reliability,id like to hear from someone who has been running a stillen charger for awhile,this is confusing ha

I'm more interested in the bolded part. Just curious, when you say upper gear do you mean 1-2? I think "lower" for those. With all the market competition and choices in terms of forced induction, I was always wondering what the stock trans and engine internals could handle. Coming from a wrx that made 375 whp on stock internals and nothing but an aftermarket clutch, I never ripped it through first gear and was always just waiting for things to break. Granted, the internals and trans are different from car to car, but guys putting down much less power than I were ripping up first and second gear.

The guys at Performance Motorsports suggested that a conservative estimate for the stock internals was 450 whp for a daily driver, but also added that as you approach 500, you're pushing it. It seems that a 6.5 psi kit making 400 whp would be the perfect mix of a huge bump in power over stock while maintaining reliability and drivability, until of course I saw this post. I know this has much to do with driving style, but has anyone else reported/read of issues with stock internals/transmission? After all, what's the point in spending the time and money for all this crazy power if you have to baby the car? If I had the cash I'd go all out and build the motor and the trans first, this way you can use the full potential of these SC and TT kits and not worry about blowing motors or gearboxes.

Also, shumby, did you have an aftermarket clutch when you damaged the trans? And what exactly did you mean by your "driving style". Even with 500 whp the gears wont just shred up under a load. They would be most vulnerable to hard launches with a strong clutch and aggressive shifts.

He punched the gas when the the car was in 7th gear in drive mode. (cruising on the highway.) !st to 4th gear can take the extra power but 5th to 7th can not. To date there is no kit for a tranney upgrade. I have the first GTM built torque converter and I will be testing at the drag strip in april.
hopefully there will be a VB for it soon. ( its going to be a long time till anybody has one,)

I guess the transgo kit is only for the 5AT? You would think that they would have a kit for the 7AT by now.
