Loooong piping, intake near the ground and under the car where there is TONS of dirt and debris. There are some setups like that for GTO's and stuff, but it wouldn't be my first choice for the Z. There are more drawbacks than benefits...lots more.

website... Squires Turbo Systems - Turbocharged Innovation! Thier dyno of a 350Z To me, the best thing is under hood overcrowding/heat issues are avoided. I'd be terrified to drive though a puddle though!

Wouldn't driving through a puddle make the turbo explode/crack, because of the heat? |

Squires kits are over priced and garbage to boot. The idea is good if you can pull it off, but you can't drive when it rains. The long piping actually makes it so you don't need an intercooler. The sound isn't that loud. Turbos actually act like a muffler, which is why most turbo cars come with resonators instead of mufflers.
I wouldn't buy an STS product. You can build them yourself with better parts for half the price almost. Back in the days when STS gained a lot of popularity with them, nobody knew that they weren't that great, but they definitely make a lot of power with them. However, again, for the money they're really not worth it.

Can you say Turbo Lag?? With that long of piping it would take for ever for that turbo to spool!
There is a specific reason why everyone mounts turbos right off the exhaust manifold/headers. |

Actually, the lag really isn't as bad as you'd think. It really depends on the turbo(s) size. But you can get 500WHP from turbos without a lot of lag.

Yeah, there are a few kits that put the air filter further up. My biggest worry was always bottoming out and losing some expensive turbos! LOL

I checked out the website. Its interesting but I can see all kinds of potential problems with all that piping. And like someone said, where those turbos are located on most of these cars the rear tire is going to kick up water and mudd into the turbos. I dont see that these turbos are water cooled which really throws up a red flag to me.

After seeing those photos I thought this was some kind of joke. That looks like a seriously hillbilly rigged setup right there.. Like someone had a turbo lying around and lots of piping and said "hey, let's mount the turbo where it's as far as possible from the engine and suck air from the pavement and see what happens!" after having way too many natty lights. |

They don't need to be water cooled, actually. Some turbos are oil cooled to start, but because they're not located under the hood where heat builds up and it's hard to escape, they stay cooler. The air in the back of the car is much cooler. The kits all use a separate oil pump, oil cooler, and (I believe) reservoir. So the turbos do stay cool. However, I have heard that the STS oil pumps and what not are complete junk. (Just what I've heard) A self built kit would put that on you, though, so you could make a better oiling system.
BTW, I haven't heard of anyone that's had water, mud, etc problems.
