Jimmy had driven the car today and was pleased at the performance and shifting, although he didn't press it hard. As we BOTH found out there is little 'press' needed on the pedal to wake it up.
I arrived at 5pm to find his detailer Mark finishing up a full clean & wax. REALLY sharp, and an extra perk I wasn't expecting. We settled up to both of our satisfaction, and I took him for a short ride. Well, you've all heard the reports from others, and it was as impressive as I was imagining. I also kept it below 1/2 throttle, but that boost starts building and it has a mind of it's own. Me likes. I was VERY anticipatory of how the 5AT transmission would react with the TransGo kit, and any programming that was done via ECU. Before, the OEM box was sluggish and slow. Nice and comfortable, but not crisp. NOW it's crisp. As Sam informed me early on, D would be comfortable, but DS and manual shifts would pop firm. Perfect! This was really gratifying. Highly recommended. Wouldn't you know it, but my wife caught the flu today and was home needing to go to bed early. I had to abandon my initial plan of a nice long highway ride and simply take it home after a 15 min jaunt. My 8-yr-old needeed a babysitter. I'll put some time in on it this weekend, weather dry. One disappointment: There is a VERY pronounced drone at 2100-2500 RPM in the cab. Loud. Below and above it's fine, but that's a very popular range for everyday driving. This is a full GTM 2.5" exhaust with CAT test pipes. I'll discuss this with Sam. Beyond this there is still some minor tweeking needed: The idle is anywhere from 700-1000rpm and it's not gotten any logs sent to GTM for diagnosis. (Am I correct on this?) We'll do that soon. The Shop's dyno is available, but we want to make sure it's right on the road first, before stressing it on the dyno. Especially with the auto, we wanted to be cautious. Fine with me, and we WILL put it on soon enough. Overall satisfaction is HIGH. More news as it develops. Thanks for paying attention to this delayed build. Coop

Happy to hear everything is working well now. So even with modest driving there is still a bit of boost? In other words, there's a noticeable difference?

Waiting on his answer to. I'm 99% sure this is the way I'm going and that would seal the deal.

Hi guys,
Short answer: Yes. Truth is, my title claims this is Stage I. Sam was confident enough in this that he sent Stage II turbos, so it's actually a Stage II setup. Like you, I was wary of a boost out of range of my everyday driving. Well, it's almost immediate, and there doesn't appear to be any loss pre-boost. I'm having my cake and eating it; slice-after-slice. Here's a VERY short and non-authoritive clip. First is a 1/4 throttle run up the gears in DS from first, and then I slow down and do it again at 1/2 throttle. I think I cautiously rolled back a bit because it hangs in second a bit long, but you get the idea. The second one chirps it a bit in second. You can see the traction light flickers on. Cold roads, and unsafe, as you can see. YouTube - Infiniti G37S - GTM Twin turbo - 5 speed auto w/kit What's impressive is not only the immediate power, but the firm shifts. Coop

It's been at The Shop for it's final go over. We've put it on the dyno and are de-tuning it a bit. That's right. It came in at 530whp at around 9lbs of boost. YIKES!
Jimmy asked Sam to modify the maps for even lower AFR's (11.0 range). This could remove about 30 hp. Still quite aggressive for an auto. I promise another, better, vid once I do. I can't wait. This has been a longer than usual process, but it's a success story all the way. Coop

i think he should leave it as not too rich and not too lean , just put on drag radials 305 in the back and he is set to go . but in the end of the day thats just me .

From what I know, there is a software tuning parameter that the 7-spd auto can utilize (and the 5-spd?). Jimmy's GTR has the 7-spd and they bumped up the pressure without disassembly. It's making 760whp!

760whp ??????? wooow , but then again the trannys for the 370z and gtr are different right ? so its almost impossiable to push the stock 7speed tranny for the 370z for that amount of power for DD ? anyone , the point of me asking cuz am thinking of building a
speed 7 auto but i the same am afraid their isnt a valvebody upgrade for it plus it will have problems down the road for a DD unless someone corrects me wrong from a personal expereince !! thanks for your help . MOE |

^^^ I don't know, myself. Someone else will have to clarify.
Sam sent Jimmy (2) tunes today. Each one a bit richer. One of them is going to be my final. News once we do. Coop
