When i was doing research on FI everyone was saying as long as the tune is good and no detonation I really wont effect the reliability of the vehical. Maybe you can help me understand this. Thanks
Frank
it does and it doesn't scare me, having a mixed feeling on it right now. detonation isn't good but i've also heard that many cars in the modern days have slight detonation even on stock cars. that's what is making me feel better driving it lol. my car only detonates down low picking up on 1st gear only. if it detonates on higher rpms than it's really really bad and shouldn't drive the car at all. back in 07 when i had my leased G35 coupe it was making the same clicking(ping) noise and i thought that was from the flywheel till i recently took my current car to a local tuner and he told me that's detonation and that's how i know even with a stock engine it may still detonate from the factory. so i'm actually not too worry about it. hope it all makes sense lol

Besides acting like a kid and bashing on a product why don't you keep your immature comments to yourself. You don't even own a Stillen kit or have dealt with one lol...If you like TT's and don't like the Stillen kit. AWESOME! nothing wrong with it, but at some point whoever comes into this thread dont't give a damn about what you think...... Obviously, OP created a thread about the kit so people in search of the Stillen kit can get to know more about the kit. It is not a discussion between SC's vs TT's ... People like you truly screw threads that bring useful information to the community.
Thanks for the long winded rebuttal..like I stated before I don't care what you own or what type of "expertise" you may think you have..you have offered no usefull info at all..just let it go man.

idk why the 370z is getting 375whp but i'm making 411whp and my car(G37) is a tad heavier than the Z. realistically i'm gaining over 100whp. now that's pretty good imo. here's the proof and i believe many of you had already seen it but i'll post it again anyway.
This dyno sheet is from july. 7 tunes ago y don't u post an independent dyno seperate from stillens? Like the dyno u got done at z car garage and your numbers were lower than mine and I'm at 377 and my car drives like crap from every one of the stillen tunes. Sorry to call u out but the thing that upset me with the whole kit is stillen marketed it as a turn key kit. And we both bought this kit as a turn kit kit. But we have eight different tunes and there is always something wrong with the tune and its been a huge hassle. If anyone buys this kit just know u have to get it custom tuned unlike what still advertised as a simple flash tune. Its been far from that. and once u get get it custom tuned u have no warranty.
I hope your happy stillen i took out my "crappy stillen supercharge"r out of signature since it seemed to really upset u guys and u wouldnt let me return my kit or help me unless i did that

sure, i can post all that! it's not a big deal. hold on, gathering the dyno sheets.

first one is at Stillen's facility. tune # 1
2nd one is at ZCG. tune # 6
3rd one is at Stillen's facility again. tune # 7

Im curious what our numbers will be with the eighth tune. Like everyone has said before the only way to get decent numbers out of this kit is to custom tune it. Which i know now but not what stillen advertised as a turn key. The only person getting stillens "turn key" numbers is RCZ which he has custom with lots of supporting mods and the original pully. Everyone that has customed tune their kit is still no where near what stillen advertised. JUst seems kinda shady to me and i feel ripped off.

Im going to stillen to get a dyno it seems to add a good 30 - 40 hp to your numbers.

look Tom, i simply don't care about what kind of numbers i'm making, i got over that **** and just as long as my car drives fine i don't really care if it's making 410 or 375 period.

After eight tunes and almost five months i dont care about the numbers as much as my car just being drivable. If i could do it all over again i wouldnt.

I bought this kit as a somewhat inexpensive upgrade compared to turbo and also more reliable than a turbo and with a simple flash tune i could get awesome numbers like the stillen test car with their tune that advertised in their press realease

Weiboy and myself are now on tune eight 5 months later and the only way for this kit to work is to custom tune so their goes your warranty and stillens off the hook. I just feel cheated and theirs nothing i can do about unless i want to give stillen $1000 back as a restocking fee to return it

the problem is that you guys are on tune#8 and it still doesnt drive very well...detonation of any kind wouldn't be acceptable imo...please just go and get a custom tune like RCZ and be done with it..

Engine knocking
-----------------------------------
Knocking (also called knock, detonation, spark knock, pinging or pinking) in spark-ignition internal combustion engines occurs when combustion of the air/fuel mixture in the cylinder starts off correctly in response to ignition by the spark plug, but one or more pockets of air/fuel mixture explode outside the envelope of the normal combustion front. The fuel-air charge is meant to be ignited by the spark plug only, and at a precise time in the piston's stroke cycle. The peak of the combustion process no longer occurs at the optimum moment for the four-stroke cycle. The shock wave creates the characteristic metallic "pinging" sound, and cylinder pressure increases dramatically. Effects of engine knocking range from inconsequential to completely destructive. It should not be confused with pre-ignition (or preignition), as they are two separate events.

Abnormal combustion
------------------------------------
When unburned fuel/air mixture beyond the boundary of the flame front is subjected to a combination of heat and pressure for a certain duration (beyond the delay period of the fuel used), detonation may occur. Detonation is characterized by an instantaneous, explosive ignition of at least one pocket of fuel/air mixture outside of the flame front. A local shockwave is created around each pocket and the cylinder pressure may rise sharply beyond its design limits. If detonation is allowed to persist under extreme conditions or over many engine cycles, engine parts can be damaged or destroyed. The simplest deleterious effects are typically particle wear caused by moderate knocking, which may further ensue through the engine's oil system and cause wear on other parts before being trapped by the oil filter. Severe knocking can lead to catastrophic failure in the form of physical holes punched through the piston or head (i.e., rupture of the combustion chamber), either of which depressurizes the affected cylinder and introduces large metal fragments, fuel, and combustion products into the oil system. Hypereutectic pistons are known to break easily from such shock waves.

Detonation can be prevented by any or all of the following techniques: the use of a fuel with high octane rating, which increases the combustion temperature of the fuel and reduces the proclivity to detonate; enriching the fuel/air ratio, which adds extra fuel to the mixture and increases the cooling effect when the fuel vaporizes in the cylinder; reducing peak cylinder pressure by increasing the engine revolutions (e.g., shifting to a lower gear, there is also evidence that knock occurs more easily at low rpm than high regardless of other factors); increasing mixture turbulence or swirl by increasing engine revolutions or by increasing "squish" turbulence from the combustion chamber design; decreasing the manifold pressure by reducing the throttle opening; or reducing the load on the engine. Because pressure and temperature are strongly linked, knock can also be attenuated by controlling peak combustion chamber temperatures by compression ratio reduction, exhaust gas recirculation, appropriate calibration of the engine's ignition timing schedule, and careful design of the engine's combustion chambers and cooling system as well as controlling the initial air intake temperature. Knock is less common in cold climates. As an aftermarket solution, a water injection system can be employed to reduce combustion chamber peak temperatures and thus suppress detonation.

I think it's our fuel over here. I might wanna try using some Octane booster and see if that helps.

Regardless of the minor knock I'm having the car is running well, it doesn't drive like crap as others have stated. As you can see Stillen is getting very close in wrapping up their tuning issues cuz their tunes are getting better one after another. I have no complaints on Stillen's customer services whatsoever. I'm able to reach someone anytime of the day or night. Giving them an A+ in my part and thanks to Josh@Stillen for hooking me up with the AP Racing BBK. Them bad boys brakes very good!
