Yes, the exhaust side is a .86 A/R but it's a GT2860RS

Cool, thanks. So this turbo is used on what they're calling a Stage 2? What turbos do the lower stages use?

I used a 48 trim GT2871R with the 0.86 A/R turbine on a Celica build and I didn't think that turbo was very well suited to the application. I felt it was really laggy and then it came on like a hammer at 4200 rpm, which really sucked on a FWD car. That turbo replaced an earlier kit with a smaller IHI turbo (VF23). That setup was never going to impress anyone with numbers, but it spooled right up and gave the car a bunch of midrange power it never had.

It seemed like my old setup was kind of comparable since the Celica engine was basically half the displacement of the VQ37. I'm currently working on a different Celica with the same turbo this kit is using, so I'm curious to see the difference between how the two turbos behave.

The stage 1 kit uses the same GT28RS but with a .64 A/R exhaust housing.

I get full boost on my car around 3800-3900 and I have the stage 2 kit on my 07 HR 350z. That sounds a little late but it still provides plenty of low end torque while cruising if you need to pass someone around 50-60mph or at highway speeds.

Has anyone heard anything about the new Garrett GTX series turbos they released at SEMA???? After I rebuild my block I will upgrade to a bigger set up turbos. These new GTX turbos look way too big. Maybe they will make them in smaller sizes soon.

Edit: looks like they don't make one that will work with the GTM kit :(

But then when you get on it that beast comes ALIVE, it was F#^king awsome. Thanks for the ride and going out of your way to meet up with me late as hell even though you had to get up for work in like 5 hours. xbigb4ller69z is one of the coolest guys i've met on the forum so far thanks again. It was completely worth the ten hour drive to check it out... o yeah disney so cool too.

Thank you for the compliments.... hope you had fun on your trip and the test drive lol. Perhaps, this gave you a hint to stay with a turbo setup vs a supercharger lol

I'm running the F.I. Exhaust with the twin turbo setup. The car still made 450 whp on a Mustang dyno with this exhaust. Perhaps If I switch to GTM's, it would make more power... but believe me when I tell you that 450whp is more than enough. It's hard enough to retain traction on 4th gear. I'm going to need new tires soon! :icon18:

Just for clarification... I have the STG 1 kit.

why your saying that it wont fit with gtm kit? didnt they said somewhere in middle of the video that you just have to remove the old Garret and put the new gtx but it should be same size...

I don't think they mentioned a GT28, smallest was GTX30. If I read this thread correctly, GTM is using GT28 turbos.

VERY jealous. Can't wait until I've got the money to do this. I'm guessing a $10K personal loan would be like $200/mo. I could swing that perhaps.

I'd aim for 450-500rwhp too.

xbigb4ller69z 12-03-2010 11:42 AM

Def worth the money... it's just fo fun! :icon18:

Maybe I missed it, but did you go with HFCs or Test Pipes?

So after adding 500 miles to the car, and getting everything tweaked and worked out, the car is driving like a champ. It's kinda hard to drive normal just because I love the blow off valves going off. I also love the fact the wastegates are open, which just gives the car a crazy sound specially when you're driving by someone with their windows open... their faces are priceless! lol.

So far, I haven't had any heating issues. The highest I've seen my oil temps were roughly 220... driving it hard for 15-20minutes. Right now it's pretty cool in Florida, so oil temps have been hovering around 180's. I'm currently running two oil coolers, and about 7-8 quarts of oil (0w - 50w enos oil.)

So far, I love the car! :icon18:

Makes you wonder why Nissan don't just send them over to GTM before they even hit the showroom floor.

Kastley85891 12-27-2010 09:33 AM

Mans got a point - make a nice mid way between the Z and the GTR - sort of a 370ST

jperez84 01-01-2011 11:33 AM

Any pictures on the twin oil cooler setup?
