seriously we dont need instigating little pricks in this thread... If you want to start crap go else where... if you were actually reading this thread and actually following this build you would know I am allowing GTM to do product development on this car... Take a chill pill and actually educate yourself on the build... if you continue the instigating quips you can leave.

Nevertheless, here are some images generated from the scanning software. One of the biggest advantages of this process is the ability to verify air flow through the intake and make any necessary changes to the design in CAD to eliminate any restrictions. The design has been finalized and is being "grown" as we speak. According to the company we are working with, we should have the prototype in hand next week. At that time, we will be test fitting the lower manifold in conjunction with the GT-R upper intake plenum and performing some initial dyno testing to verify the design.

Some of you familiar with rapid prototyping have suggested growing the part in titanium. Unfortunately, this part is physically too large to print using an iterative metal laser sintering process. Not to mention that even if their "printer" was large enough, it would take over a month just to print! Given that people want to see this car finished, we found the timeframe unacceptable. Therefore, we will be using a new type of high temperature plastic developed to be tested in harsh operating conditions (such as a forced induction manifold). Although we were skeptical of using plastic on this part of the engine, the material specifications convinced us that it is well within operating parameters.

We have several cars that we will be testing this manifold setup on: a stock 370z (to see what effect this manifold has on an NA application), a GTM supercharged 370z, and of course the White Dragon. Given that we can make adjustments to things like runner diameter and length in CAD, we can fine tune the performance to suit the particular application.

Also, it has been our experience that the factory HR/VHR upper intake plenum starts having issues with over 15psi of boost and 700whp (afterall it was designed for an NA application). Using our lower intake plenum in conjunction with the GT-R upper intake plenum will allow for more boost and more power.

Enough technobabble, here are some pics:

What sorts of changes are you guys looking to make? Is the goal to raise peak torque higher in the RPM range? It would be awesome if you could keep it flat after 5500 RPM where it really starts to plummet.

Well isn't the purpose of that to allow for the GTR manifold to be fited on? I know the reason there going with the GTR one is because the stock one they feel wont be able to handle the boost pressure, atleast thats what i got out of it.

The stock one will work with mild applications. However, when pushing higher boost pressures the stock unit was not designed for it becomes terribly inefficient and there for we took on the GTR intake manifold as a readily available solution that not only looks great but was designed with FI in mind. The lower intake manifold is simply to allow the VQ motor to mount the GTR intake manifold seeing as the runner positions are reversed. GTM has taken into consideration their own improvements and what performance they would like to see out of this unit.

^^^ Hmmm. Bigger diameter but shorter runners would really allow it to breathe while also raising where peak torque is made. In conjunction with a VVEL controller to maintain low speed torque with the new set up, this could really be an awesome NA mod...

I was playing with this calculator

http://www.wallaceracing.com/runnertorquecalc.php

Supposedly the engine makes peak torque at 5.2K RPM. Assuming the displacement is 225 ci (is that correct?), am I right that the stock IM has an Intake runner area around 2.21 sq inches and length around 16.15 inches long (from valve head to plenum).

If so, it would be cool to raise peak torque up around 6000 -- that would seriously raise peak power potnetial -- awesome for all out drag cars, but good for the street too, especially if VVEL can maintain low speed torque.

According to the calculator, for peak torque at 6K:

Optimum Intake runner area 2.55 square inches (calculated)
Optimum Intake Length 14.00 inches long (from valve head to plenum).

Just to double-check, is this plastic design chosen for economical purpose as well? IIRC, a brand new VR38 lower intake manifold runs for around $500. I wonder if a group buy would help cope with the development costs.

Also, assuming we'll be using the standard VQ37 gasket for the manifold to meet with the head and VR38 gasket for the intake plenum. Are there benefits to using a thermal gasket?

Damn, impressive GTM. This is at another level! It's pretty amazing to see this kind of technology, granted it has become more accessible as of late, being used in the development of products for this market range. Big thumbs up.

What's next? fluid dynamics? gonna get adrian newey to design a body kit?

Sounds great , now add the Motordyne intake manifold with the VVEL and the N/A car would really haul. The Motordyne work very well on my car.
