I just hope i won't have to open the motor or trans(7AT) just bolt on the kit and time for dyno tune. I'm not looking to make monster power just up to 550hp (at the engine) as it says on there website. Then again what do i know:roflpuke2:

induetime 10-27-2010 02:30 AM

I have been following this for a couple of weeks now, but I just registered to the forum. Thanks for sharing your build! I'm looking forward to seeing the progress & Sema pics.

bullitt5897 10-27-2010 08:37 AM

thanks induetime! So I talked with Sam last night and the car will not be running before SEMA... SAM and team have been working hard to improve on the GTR intake manifold design!!!!!!! when he told me my jaw dropped! From our conversation last night they should be finishing up the mods this week and will be getting the intake ready for CAD and 3D scanning when I get back from SEMA. A week or so after that I will have the new intake and then testing begins.

My only wish is to have my car back before christmas *fingers crossed*

Thats great news Mike. I am sure you will have it back before then. I am sure if you ask Sam he will make it happen. Now I got a question for you well questions. Isn't the intake manifold on the stock Z the main reason why we cant go over 12 psi. If so is sam going to make one like yours to start marketing? I know thats more of a Sam question but I know you guys talk alot more then me and him. Last, Sam tore apart your engine, what do the internals look like, meaning what are they made out of, meaning are they forged. Just wondering if this car can handle more then 12 psi, or can we use 12 psi more often then a few times. personally I only use 12 psi when I know I am going up against a tough car. In other words I get scared when I turn the boost that High because I am afraid I am going to blow the engine.
Thanks MIke
Frank

Hey Toner buddy!

Ok, my intake on the car right now is the prototype for a new intake going to be made ;) I cant go into much detail because our conversation was very brief on the subject.

Sam did not tear apart my engine however, he did have a spare 4.5L stroker short block laying around and we made all of the mods to that motor. from my understanding the motor can handle the stress levels that of a car putting out 12 psi. However, your longevity may be at risk with that motor. from my understanding the internals in our motor are slightly beefier if not the same as the 3.5HR motors. From their history they are fine up to 12psi...

hope that helps:tup:

It does thank you very much.

I don't think the internals are forged. Sharif@Forged cracked open the HR engine when they first came out back in 06/07 to see the internals, structure, etc and I believe he said they are cast, but they are much stronger than the DE. The VHR internals are just as strong as the HR. Anyhow, I think Sam posted pics in this thread when he took out Bullitt's engine with many pics of the internals and block. The block itself is very well built. just the internals that need beefing up if you wanna run high boost all the time.

I just don't get it. How much more would it really cost for nissan to install forged rods and pistons. At least as an option or in the nismo for crying out loud. If my car had the strength to handle FI and enjoy a longer life it would be a lot farther along mod wise than it is now. Wake up nissan.

New products for 370? Yay!

It might be hard for them to justify the engineering to produce those types of parts in order for the forged internals to meet OEM specifications for durability. Besides, there probably isn't enough demand from the average 370Z buyer to justify the additional cost.
