TT, SC, or just get an R8 or Porsche GT3?

Ok, back open for business. AK, I did close it as it was spiralling southward quickly before your touchup. Thanks.

I still think you should save cash! I'm thinking you should be in a position to put away at least $4000 a month after taxes into savings. That's nice.

That is very nice too. I think my plan is going to be to build the Z at a leisurely pace and buy a CTS-V for daily driving given it's a bit more family friendly.

too. Nothing like having extra cash money saved up in your bank. I know many doctors who drive beat up POS cars, not sure why (as a matter of fact, I know a Radiologist who drives a old 96 Toyota Corolla ). That's IMO is ridiculous. What you're doing is not a bad idea. Driving a nice sports car for yourself (most likely will be supercharged and nicely tuned) and then have a nice family sedan like CTS-V (one of only GM cars I will drive) or BMW M3 sedan. I love the CTS-V interior

Haha! One of my radiologist colleagues drives a '98 Camry with a missing hubcap. The hubcap has been missing for the 3 years I worked with her! OMG. I'm sure she's got mad money though.

On the CTS-V, either get in a group that offers you a car as part of the employment package or do some consulting or per diem work that gets paid as 1099 income rather than as W-2 income. Then you can get the CTS-V on lease and write it off as well as a fraction of your mortgage or rent for your home office. Better yet, Find a CPA with a good reputation for being...well....creative.... then pay him for a one hour consultation to get advice on what to buy/lease to maximize your tax benefits, then start spending that cash!

For myself, I have a Toyota yaris as my daily driver and the 370 as my weekend car. Because my cost of living is low, I sits on big piles o' cash. Took my car to Stillen in Orange County yesterday and dropped it off to get the supercharger, lightened flywheel, clutch, canards and splitter installed. After install, tax and whatnot it's $9,500. Nice to write a check for the total, not stress over it and not worry that I might blow the engine and need a whole new vq37. If you own an R8 or GT3 it'll run what.... $30,000 for a new engine?

Excellent advice, Phimosis (appropriate name for my profession as well). You're the second person who has recommended the 1099 route for the tax benefits. Will definitely find a way to make that happen.

I've found there are three types of doctors. 1) Those who drive shitty cars because they don't know better. 2) Those who drive shitty cars only to the hospital so they stay under the malpractice radar and keep their nice rides at home. 3) Those who drive their Maserati to the hospital because they just don't give a f*%&.

Oh, and I demand many many videos after your SC is installed. I'm still waiting for RCZ to post some shortly!

The SC will come for me. Right now my agenda is Hotchkis sways, custom oil cooler, Stillen power steering cooler, and spacers. Should keep me busy for the next weekend or two

Nice thinking spearfish! That caddy is definitely for day to day leisurely drives.

Hate to bust all your bubbles but those doctors that drives POS to work is BS-ing you. My sister and her husband own an optometry business. She owns and runs the business and he is the doctor. He drives a 1990 blue ext chevy s-10 and she drives a 2003 honda minivan to work. Haha. She told me they do it because they don't want their employees and everyone to know their business. Sitting at home in their garages are also a 2010mercedes coupe, a 2007 audi coupe, and a 2008 lexus suv.

I'm not sure what you mean by writing off your CTS-V lease payments as a business expense. You can't write-off 100% of your lease payments and then use it 5 days out of the week for non-business related activities. You can deduct the miles when you drive from job site to job site (home office to client's office) and a portion of vehicle expenses (maintenance), but that's it. Only if the vehicle is a true work vehicle (shop show car, work truck, etc.), then you can put it on a depreciation schedule.

A good CPA isn't just someone who figures out how to fudge your Schedule C, but someone who will be able to defend you if you get audited. I've been consulting for the past three years and have gone through a lot of this myself. Find a good CPA and follow their advice.

Not everyone who makes good money spends it on cars believe it or not.
