Just to clarify, we're not ducking tail. As I mentioned earlier, my job duties and responsibilities keep me very busy and I am unable to sit on the forums and debate back and forth.

The simple facts are this:

1) This supercharger system was originally installed 4 years ago. As such, it is outside the warranty timeframe.

2) As we have never seen an intercooler fail on the VQ37 we offered to sell a new intercooler to Whiddles at a greatly reduced price.

3) Air to water intercoolers have been used for decades on everything from aftermarket supercharger systems to factory equipped vehicles and have proven to be a very reliable and efficient method of cooling the compressed air in a forced induction application.

4) From day one the STILLEN VQ37 intercooler has been a bar and plate design. Bar and plate intercoolers are more expensive than tube and fin however they are immensely stronger and more durable. It made sense to us to use a bar and plate intercooler on this application. The heat exchanger mounted up front uses a tube and fin design which is along the lines of a traditional radiator.

5) In reviewing the images that Whiddles has posted you can see that the images of the O rings installed in their grooves include a foreign substance which appears to be RTV silicone sealant. Subsequent images posted by Whiddles show the O rings with the silicone sealant removed and show what the O ring should look like. These images were posted by Whiddles and clearly speak for themselves. Using this RTV silicone caused the damage to the manifold. Hence the recommendation by our team to replace the manifold as it was clearly damaged.

I'm not quite sure what there is to disagree about. If you're wanting me to say that the groove machined in the casting is round then yes that's correct...That's why it's called an O ring. However the gasket or O ring that goes inside that round channel has a shoulder...which makes it a square O ring...I'm not trying to mislead anyone or "double talk".

this is why we are here and I think you guys should look further into it was all

square vs round oring applies to the shape of the o ring cross section, a round o ring is a cirlce a square is molded as a square.

Hope this helps anyone here that might be confused.

The definition on an O-Ring is: "a gasket in the form of a ring with a circular cross section, typically made of pliable material, used to seal connections in pipes, tubes, etc."

Only time will tell if the intercooler failure is an anomaly or a "wear and tear" item. I hope it is not the latter.

Whiddles, did you use de-ionized water? Any other chemicals you put in the water mixture? Just curious, some people put additives to lower the boiling point. Maybe it's causing corrosion???

My question is ok rtv on the o-ring sure but what in the hell dented your intercooler through the rear throttle opening? If the leak wasn't a bad solder job on the plates i would put money on the front of that core being f'ed up as the cause of the hydrolocking Hard to imagine that a core inside an alluminum manifold could get damaged any time other than during assembly. maybe it got banged while putting it in the manifold.

Edit: or is that just water? hard to tell. I would definitely figure out where that core was leaking from if it just cost you a motor.

the core is not dented its water pooring out as I had it hooked to the hose.

just the water and water wetter which are the recommended via stillen I believe
