When I think of the word "retarted" the first thing that comes to mind is a young male (especially a white one) walking around in baggy cloths with his oversized pants hanging halfway down his legs flannel boxers hanging out and wearing a ball cap sideways with the air of attitude that he is the bomb!

OK, back on topic.

ZSteve, Shumby, and I have both asked this question and neither of us got a straight answer.

What kind of gain should we expect with the GTM kit with an aftermarket Catback Exhaust and Hi-Flo Cats? I don't know what exhaust Shumby is rolling with but I have all Stillen Exhaust mods except for the headers.

Pretty sure he answered ZSteve right here...I also see you've posted in that thread, so forgive me if I'm a little confused. That not straight enough for you?

Sam

I've been waiting for the CBE to be put on as well, so just like me, you'll just have to be patient.

It really depends on what you will do later upgrade wise. IMO if you stay stage 1 then GTM, if you plan to upgrade then Stillen may be wiser as you wont upgrade the SC just some other smaller parts. To upgrade with GTM I beleive you have to change the SC or part of it, Im not too sure. You need to do some more reading here and then make your decision. The GTM uses a tried a true FMIC where Stillen use a new water to air cooler that we havent seen in action yet. GTM is less expensive and the savings can be used towards the install price. Both will net about the same gains but I think GTM will be slightly higher when they show the new dyno with a CBE.

What are you looking to do with the car? Give us some more details about your driving/racing style or preferred type of track.

People who like the GTM one will say GTM and People who like the Stillen one will say Stillen. I personally chose the Stillen one because it uses air-to-water cooling, an easy/cheap to upgrade design and is undergoing extensive track testing for drivability and reliability.

Your best bet is to look at both company's releases and really do your research to see which one you like more.

sylenze 03-22-2010 11:35 AM

i would also look into the company's history with FI kits...

Best advice is hold on to your money and let other people go through the first run pain. What is 3 or 4 more months?

Are people really still hung up on the marginal performance differences in these kits? It is not like both companies are using the same supercharger and the gains are based on their engineering and tuning - where changing something like the CBE and getting 5hp means OMG I must have the GTM.. Change the pulley on the Stillen kit and then bam, out front again. I won't even go into the fact that these dynos are being done by the companies themselves on different cars on different days..

3 or 4 more months means $1000 or more...

no intro pricing discount

IMO if you are willing to drop this kind of money on a modification soley based on the forums opinion of what is best for you and your scenario then you may as well flip a coin...There is no right or wrong answer to your question.

If you involve a 3rd party shop AND you have problems with the first runs of these kits, the $1000 in savings will be eaten up with additional labor charges. Then put a $ amount on your time going back and forth to the shop, getting rides, and being inconvenienced. Then factor in the frustration from shop finger pointing and lost enjoyment of the vehicle.

I'd rather wait and pay more later. My time is extremely valuable.

2fast4thelaw 03-25-2010 09:05 AM

Typically intro prices are 10% to 15% discount. I highly doubt the kit price will increase much more than $500.00 after the initial intro price. It would be a very bad move on GTM's part to tack on $1000 to $1500 on the kit already. Over time it will get cheaper for them to produce the kit especially if the volume of sales is good they can leverage better deals with thier suppliers.

Believe me, I know the game, I own several business. Intro pricing as just a marketing engine and business do it becasue it works. I even do it myself when I release new products and/or services.

My advice would be to buy it when your ready, there are bound to be improvements in this kit over time as there are bound to be some minor unforseen issues that we as customers will no doubt encounter. This is nothing against GTM or any other company out there, its just a fact. As much as I want this kit now I am holding back my urge to grab the plastic and make the call. I want to see how things ride over a few months and hear some feedback.

The last two posts from above are also very valid points to consider and are highly possible!

de_dust 03-25-2010 07:22 PM

so looking into the tuning section of the forums it appears that COBB and UpRev only has been able to adjust af ratios... does it mean stillen and GTM were able to do something different and adjust other things (even VVEL)... or is it enough to adjust AF for these kits to be safe... OR more likely i just completely missed the mark on this...like i always do... hihihihih
