What's the benefit of putting a thermal coating on your intercooler? I thought the point of thermal coating was to keep the heat in, hence why people put them on

I thought the point of thermal coating was to keep the heat in, hence why people put them on turbo components and headers. Wouldn't that negate the purpose of having an intercooler (heat exchanger)? Is this a different type of coating? __________________
