Default Oil Accumulators- an F/I engines saviour??

I have been looking for a solution to my concerns for oil starvation in my F/I engine. I came across an "Oil Accumulator" system that might be very useful and thought I would share. After reading what do you think about using this in our Z's??.

This system is in simple terms an auxilliary tank that uses compressed gas to empty the tank's oil into the engine's oil supply system to maintain a constant level. The system returns excess oil back to the accumulator. The system can also (and almost more importantly ) send oil to the engine before it starts. This is supposed to prevent damage when the engine is most vulnerable.
Benefits (according to the company):

The Accumulator is tapped to the pressure side of the engine’s oiling system. When the engine is running, oil pressure forces reserve oil into the accumulator and compresses the air ahead.

If oil pressure should suddenly drop because of hard acceleration, severe cornering or hard braking, the air pressure immediately sends oil to the main galleries. When the danger is over and the pump is once again primed with oil, the oil pressure forces oil back into the Accumulator where it is ready for the next emergency.

Oil Accumulators provide an instantaneous supply of oil when pressure falls below a safe level. Available with a 3- or 1.5-quart capacity. The 1.5-quart version is perfect for Sport Compacts and other vehicles with 4- and 6-cylinder engines. Moroso’s Accumulator 2 (No. 23903) is intended for street performance and mild off-road applications, and features a 1.5-quart capacity.

All Accumulators store oil under pressure and automatically release that oil to the main galleries when oil pressure drops. Moroso Accumulators can also be used to manually pre-lube engines before starting to prevent cold-start scuffing and premature bearing wear.

Two links for two different companies system:

Per the company you DON'T have to drill the block. You can use it with an oil adaptor sandwich; then you just need a "T" fitting.

The oil accumulator also allows you to set it up as as oil "pre-charger". On start-up before the ignition starts the engine the systems forces oil into the block. Remember the majority of engine wear occurs on start-up so this would prevent this from occurring.

I understand but there has to be some extra "unwanted" maintenance to this unit. Also the more complicated the oil line system is; higher the chance is for something to go wrong. More connection points + simple statistical math. I am not saying this is not a bad @ss integration to you system, because I would love to have one. But not a must have. Just my op.
Also: I am sure if the engine goes out its not because of too many engine starts or 250,000 miles on the odometer. Most of us that end up with a blown motor or R.I.P. engine is because they blew it in a race, dyno, failure of a mod; not becuase they did not buy a mod like this.

Only need periodic check of air pressure, similiar to an oil level check.

No argument there

I am sure if the engine goes out its not because of too many engine starts

The pre ignition oiling is just another advantage; it can't hurt.

I am thinking of it as insurance; I always like to overbuild...helps prevent problems down the road. Definatively food for thought.

z350boy:
I agree this is a good idea. I would not might looking into the added benifits of this system a little more as well. Anything to make a more reliable system is always valuble to our investment. Lets try to find hard facts that shows this idea is a good one and not just another product to complicate things.
Thanks z350boy

^^

Guess I'm going to be the guinea pig. I ordered the kit and received most parts week and a half ago. Will order my oil cooler parts next week then when it arrives I will have both the oil cooler & the accusump installed.

Make sure you create a new thread with your thoughts on the install and the added benifits.
