Stillen SC ?
How reliable is the Stillen SC CARB legal kit?
I am thinking about buying the kit and would not be looking for max power and pushing the limits of the kit. Is anyone running this set-up on a conservative tune? How has the reliability been if so? Thanks for the info in advance. |
If reliability is what you are looking for, then you should not be looking to boost your NA car :twocents:
If you're dead set on running boost, the Stillen kit is not your best option. |

My C5 Vette with a KB super charger has been super reliable tho. I wish there was a good CARB option for the Z. I will just leave it be and enjoy it for what it is. Thanks, JAR. |
The vq handles boost/ more power pretty well. Auto trans is questionable at higher torque levels. The carb stillen kit is one of the most modest FI kits, considering it is a centrifugal blower it will have the most linear high revving power band with minimal torque. This lower torque will help protect the rods and the trans. Overall It should be one of the more reliable FI options, no FI is as reliable as NA but this would probably be the most reliable FI option.

The reason that the Stillen kit has been labeled as unreliable is not because of the power that it produces, but rather the design itself being flawed. This thread (http://www.the370z.com/forced-induct...charger-2.html) goes over the issues. Basically MAF before intercooler = bad. I’m sure the unreliability is hyped up a bit since people are less likely to report good results than to bash it if they have a problem. But Bottom line.. there are better options. FWIW, the Stillien SC is your only legal FI option if you live in California. It's hp gains are rather modest for FI, hence the available 36 month/36,000 mileage warranty.
If you want FI reliablity with a full warranty, then get the new Z. |
I will pass on the new Z until Nissan does something about the god-awful front bumper/grill.

Turbo kits, theres plenty but you didn't ask about it so I'll save it. Honestly, it's all a matter of how much mulah you want to spend. |

The MAF location is a concern but on the carb tune it is accounted for in the tune and the boost levels and subsequent heat are much lower so the concern in this case is minimal. Op is looking for a conservative safe setup to presumably add just a little over FBO NA levels and not push it. The stillen carb seems to fit the bill, at about 370-400whp. Most people want and expect more. It’s easy to get greedy or have unrealistic expectations and then the stillen falls short requiring you to spend a lot to fix it it to make closure to 500whp+ like most people really want to satisfy. He didn’t mention budget or his DIY capabilities, but IAT relocation isn’t that hard, adding WMI isn’t difficult and would bring IAT down much closer to pre blower temps IAT was reading if he didn’t relocate. but on carb setup I don’t think it’s a huge deal. |

Nice sig. didn’t notice at first. I got a topgunz rotrex sc at 11psi by 4500rpm flatlined to redline on E40, cjm return, Id1300, walbro 535, KB boost a pump, isr longtube header etc…. Guessing a solid 500AWHP. 1-2 pulls super hard. 3rd is fun, 4th is already boring lol. |
