Default Motec Standalone questions.

Vitviper,
What other sensors can be installed with your firmware? How many can we install? Such as coolant pressure sensors, suspension sensors, etc. I know a few more track guys may have more questions on the capability of your firmware.

Can your Motec firmware be modified to control a DCT or a sequential transmission?

Here is the thread on a DCT swap. Seb at Specialty Z has his car up and running with the DCT swap.

The 2020 370z needs a DCT

You will want to install two IAT sensors, one per bank. You can get away with one, if you like -- I run two and the firmware will do bank fuel efficiency adjustments based on the individual sensors.

A fuel pressure sensor is not required, but highly recommend. I cannot think of an excuse not to run one on an F/I car. The ECU will adjust fueling based on differential fuel pressure and having the sensors in place when the regulator can't keep up 1:1 is important.

You will not be able to directly drive a DCT. Those style transmissions need their own controller or strategy to drive them. You can run a sequential transmission, all the gear shift logic is there. It does not support paddle shift --> just lever (strain gauge type) shifted sequentials. Ninja edit: we could certainly write a DCT controller. It would be a MoTeC solution and a separate box due to the I/O requirements to drive such things.

You have 5 free analog inputs -- oil pressure, crank case pressure, coolant pressure, etc.

You have 11 digital inputs free -> switches, knobs, speeds, flex sensor, etc.

You have plenty of outputs free -> 6 more peak & hold to do 12 injectors. 9 more general purpose lowsides (fuel pumps, duty cycle drive, boost control etc).

Cool, so I can junk my hobbs switch to run my 2nd fuel pump? That would be excellent. Being able to log fuel pressure would be excellent also. I assume safeties can be wrote in case of a failure too? For fuel pressure and oil pressure.

I don't know if you have been watching but headlift is a major issue. Mark at Mazworx has built several engines similar to mine that are on a Motec and they are good to go with no issues. Is it possible that the factory ECU and Ecutek may be causing some weird issues to cause a problem? We are up in the whp range these days. I made 1004whp with my car. My last event I lifted the heads slightly again. What is your take on this?

Sounds like I will need to sit down with Jay M. and come up with a game plan on what sensors I need. I was going to try and get it installed next year but things didn't go as planned this year. I am trying to figure out what to do. Breaking stuff sucks but it is part of the game.

So, I am flexfuel, have 2 fuel pumps, have a 4 port MAC valve for boost control, Coolant pressure sensor.

I would need to add, Fuel pressure, IAT sensors (where do I mount them at), oil pressure. What else would you recommend?

Normally the firmware we have has 3 fuel pump outputs. The 370Z one doesn't, but Max @ VMR can request (at a cost) to have additional features written in. So yes, technically you could ditch the hobbs switch. Fuel/Oil pressure safeties are there.

What's the difference in the ign timing being run on the engines? If all the engines are being punished with the same power level, what are the other variables? What kind of exhaust pressures are being seen? I recall with using ECUTek with their updated ign timing logic so you didn't have to depend on the calculated ign timing, but how do I prove it's accurate and consistent? It doesn't take much at higher power levels to punch a hole in a gasket.

You mean turbo speed sensors? Informational and fun to have, but not critical. Or boost pressure sensors? The speed sensors would provide more value on a common intake plenum.

I stuck my IAT sensors into the charge pipes before the throttles. We welded bungs on. Exhaust pressure sensors are also nice to have, but not necessary.

It can be a wild ride on my street tire setup. It is not bad at all on my 1/2 mile setup which are MT Street R drag radials. 305/45/17's. My last tune we ramped in the boost to help with traction. I can't stand it. I left a good bit on the table my last event. Pocono has a ton of traction. Didn't spin a lick.
