Default My build

Howdy.

I've been working on this build for nearly a decade and ran into a handful of issues after I got out of the military. This build was inspired by a 67-69 vette I saw going to a car show in LA nearly a decade ago.

I had a handful of shops help me with this build but the main two shops were Dynastay here in Dallas and my full sponsorship with UpRev. The sponsorship with UpRev have been a difficult path but I'll slay that information out as this post continues.

So big shout outs for assisting this build and all the love they showed.
-Dynastay - Tay for his excellent engineering skills and performance knowledge for most of all the platforms that I mess with. He's the know how guy for almost everything. Minus exotics.
-Endyne in Ft Worth, TX
-Darton Sleeve and Darton East - much of the engineering and big brain power from Jim who no longer works for them. Kind of sad about it.
-UpRev/Bardabe - UpRev took in the car due to the rare build many moons ago. Long story short the old crew at UpRev sat on it for majority of the time. Juan who shares a space with UpRev and operator and owner of Bardabe made ******* magic happen. He made the impossible ******* possible. His projects at the shop are some top notch quality.

Def need to hit both of these guys up. Tay and Juan.

I don't remember all of the small details of the car. But if I missed something and remember, I'll throw it in.

I was one of the first from Jun Performance to test out their Jun exhaust cams. I got it for 300ish when they first came to market. I still keep in touch with them every now and then and let them know what's going on, just for the hell of it. If you ever lived in Japan, they like to see their products do well and genuinely love to chat about it.

Everything on the car is built from the ground up.

Head works completely done. Endyne had Ferrea build **** to Endyne's specification after the owner bitched them out for being a **** up.

CP piston and rods.
Sleeved
All of the nuts and bolts from ARP. Jim at Darton East (again the man works for someone else now) had H19s built. I didn't know these do not exist on the market till I was telling folks about it and no one could find it. One off at the time it was engineered and made. You'd have to find Jim and pick his brain cause we had zero issues with it and haven't witnessed head lift, yet.

Tay at Dynastay made custom everything from the turbo manifolds to all of the piping for the car. This was expensive since I went through three sets in a trial and error and R&D'ing it.

2k ID Injectors.
Custom Fuel System for E85 and meth. I was previously running on C16 under the old advise from the old UpRev crew.
RJM GTR manifold conversion or whatever it's called.
All tuned on UpRev on a 2008 G37.

I can't think of anything else but everything was upgraded. The turbos are from Precision. 2x 6262s.

I have two data loggers but using the AEM data logger to keep an eye on everything since the MoTec C127 wouldn't communicate back with the car.

Planning on going with Emtron next year for more capabilities and going away from rom tuning bs. Or whenever the car blows up whichever comes first.

When tuning we ran into a bunch of issues. Heat being the number one issue we kept running into. We are going back and forth on the intercooler. It's built to hold 1300 hp but after beating the hell out of the car, the intercooler is extremely ******* hot. IAT temps would spike and the car would throttle and lose power.

The controlled temps were at 85 degrees. We were running between 25 to 31 pounds while tuning and testing. This was on a hub dyno. They dyno was 8.6 seconds long. 650 RPM/seconds starting at 1800 rpm going to 7400 for those curious.

The car has sensors to monitor any sudden spikes in temp. Sudden spike could be or might be a head lift issue and fall back to a fail safe of cutting the car off.

GFB GForce 3 boost controller assist with that craziness. Don't ask me how to set this up. I don't know how to turn up the boost. You have to calibrate three different parameters to get it rolling. I'm lost on it. Juan sends me a bunch of math to change things here and there in real time.

We are planning on doing some dyno'ing at Dynastay when the temperatures drop a bit here in Texas. It's balls hot here in Dallas at the moment and we want to rule out a few things when the tuning was occurring during the heat peaks in Texas.

Oh, the tires are to get some traction I'm using are:

Fronts. Nitto Invos 245/40/19
Rears. Mickey Thompsons ETR 305/45/17

This has been my best combo and they hook very well.

Using OS Giken Triple Plate and all that jazz to make it work.

That's all I can think of at the moment. If y'all have questions I'll answer what I can.

PS - I drive the car hard. I have the boost controller to cut boost at 32 pounds as a safety measure.

Here are a few pictures and a dyno sheet.

Better view of the engine bay and custom fuel system that UpRev built. Juan added a few stuff underneath the car and such for other stuff.

Looks like you have the same issue as me, Intercooler needs some attention. Darton East was a mixed bag of nuts over the years. That is why I used Mazworx for my motor build.

I haven't had an issue with ARP. Jim and ARP had open comms and were going back and forth.

I can't say anything went wrong yet.

Oh Dynastay! He was my go-to in my 240sx days.

I think I’ve seen your car many times in his shop.

I meant your IAT's climbing. My Mazworx engine is good. No issues with that.

Did you do any type of fire rings or step decking the block to keep the heads from
Lifting?

Fire ring no. Never heard about that a decade ago. The step decking, couldn't tell ya.

A question to ask Tay at Dynastay.

I would say if the guy from Darton East was very knowledgeable, which it sounds like he was, he step deck cut the block for you. It would be something he may or may not have stated. Step deck cutting a block with Darton MID sleeves is not new. It has been done for a while. If you motor ever comes apart it will be something that needs to be checked to see how many millimeters the cylinder walls protrude above the deck.

You're most likely correct. Yesterday the car didn't explode on me. Ran it on the 1k plus map. Ran my friend's ZL1 that gapped me by bus lengths. Ran the car few times back to back. No issues. No overheating. No throttles of any sort. Car was running on 31 psi pounds and nothing happened except that I learned 10 speeds are bada$$.

Everything was good to go.

Wow. Blackbox tuning has a plug and play solution for the emtron kv16 I believe. Cost is really compared to a motec or starting from scratch with a haltech nexus unit

Juan over at Bardabe Performance is certified with EmTron and has already paved a way for the car/platform.

I'm getting in more seat time before going full retard on it. There are a few things after running the car against other, more up to date vehicles, of what I would like in this future iteration.

Rom tuning is not the way. That's my two cents on it.

You have Uprev. You can't do boost by gear, traction control tuning, etc. This is where Ecutek is much better. It can be used as an interm until a standalone can be installed.
