Probably an oversight on my part, but if Lou is going TT, then why get a 2.5" exhaust versus 3"? I wanna know because I've got the F.I. 2.5" exhaust and I plan to go TT in the future and wanna know if I could get away with it without having to buy a new exhaust system.
|
2.5" is sufficient but 3" is ideal its possible Lou just preferred the sound of the 2.5" but with turbos the bigger the exhaust diameter the better
|
wow, beautiful... thanks for the hardon Jon... Tuesday's Update: Me test driving Lou's new ride!?!?!
|
Not sure how much of an impact a 3" exhaust will have on a 3.7L 6 cylinder, but when I installed a 3" (upgrade from 2.25") on my S13 (CA18DET), I lost all guts down low and it went bananas while in boost. That being said, I am sure the 3" exhaust will have benefits once in boost. Not sure how it will affect low RPM though.
Make sure you let us know some numbers, so we know what to expect from a 2.5" exhaust with your setup. Also, I can't wait to see Lou's face when he gets it(take some pix dudes). |
Now that was a good Monday Update! :)

You're both right. In most cases, we recommend a 3" diameter exhaust to be used with TT applications. Most turbocharged vehicles from sports cars to diesel trucks benefit from larger diameter exhaust, mainly because turbochargers flow a much greater volume of exhaust gases than a naturally aspirated engine. So under full boost, the turbocharger needs flow as much exhaust gas as possible to continue to spool as quickly and efficiently. However, some customers prefer the 2.5" look and sound to the 3" True Dual, and they may sacrifice small amount of top end power, but the smaller diameter exhaust usually produces a bit more low end torque than a 3" exhaust car. Short answer, both 2.5" and 3" work perfectly fine with turbocharged cars. Quote:

Fire her up yet? :excited:

TUESDAY!!! Lou drive his car?!?

The tq curve isn't to good. In my opinion since the cats are 3in might as well go 3in all the way back
|
I am excited to see if the lower power band will change
|
I decided to go bigger on the turbos. I feared that with the smaller turbos and bigger exhaust you would lose the low end power. That and my power goals would not be met with the lil turbos :D hehe GT30's or bigger in my book lol

Majority of the kit is here I just uploaded pics from my phone to my computer and will be posting a thread tonight :D now I am waiting on the supporting mods and backorder items like the K&N Filters, fuel system and what not. Once I get those parts in I will have a tenative date tto drop the car off at Forged and it should be no longer than 4 weeks until she breaths again! :excited:

Good Luck Bullitt!
|
Thanks Lou! Same to you! I am enjoying your build hehe we are def gonna have to meet up after our builds!

<off topic>
Jon@Altered: I loved my CA also. With the stock T25, it made no sense to shift after 6000 RPM, but I did anyway. When I installed the 2871, it really came alive. I kinda miss it though. </off topic> I am curious how the 2.5" exhaust will pan out in the grand scheme of things. Especially since I went with the BERK GB#2. You are the man Lou. I may be following in your footsteps if the exhaust works out with your setup. |
It's Wednesday!.....update?
|
She is done. The are going to tune for the next couple days. Hopefully have a dnyo chart Friday

Hey everyone,
I have a video of the car breathing again for the first time with the new turbos! However, Lou, the video does have shots of your car with the license plate visible. Are you ok with me posting this up? I didn't have time to yank the plate off before I shot the video... The car is on it's initial test drive right now after the ECU Flash, just to make sure everything is functioning properly. Once it's back, it should be ready to load up on the dyno for a tuning session! -jon |

You did make sure to take out a new life insurance policy Fusz? I would hate for the car to get a scratch and you have a heart attack buddy =)

It's okay, the Tag is expired anyway. Have at it

AAM Competition 370Z Twin Turbo #2
|
It's nothing big yet, just the car idling and a light bump on the revs. The exhaust sounds so sick in person! Nice deep tone, with a bit of gurgle after you let off the throttle! Can't wait to hear it under full boost on the dyno!
