[BP single kit] Compturbo died @ 6k miles; looking at replacements
Single BP kit with the Compturbo oil less unit. It died @ 6k miles despite living a simple, well maintained, easy life. They want $1200 to replace the CHRA and I don't feel like wasting any more time or money on their poorly engineered and badly warrantied products.
Spooler and Co. helped me get info from a member that has swapped over to a Precision Turbo 6870 1.32 unit as it bolts right up to the manifold without any modifications. I have irons in the fire to snag one but I'd like to hear if anyone else has ideas or info on other units that would work. It doesn't look like Garrett has anything that will be a direct bolt on solution. I picked up an Exa pump and also a CJM oil pan with appropriate ports for an oil fed turbo. I think that should get me up and running but if you see anything I missed please let me know. |
That is Solidus's turbo. His car runs very well. Jay at Realstreet helped him size it. Al's first pick was put back on the shelf after Jay saw what he had chosen. As for how his car runs, this turbo is spot on. Jay knows his chit. I wish I had someone help me choose mine. Sometimes you have to dare to be different.

That's a pretty damn big turbo and housing, gonna be pretty laggy. I'd look at a GTX3582R Gen II I fit one up on my V2 kit.

Tossed the exa pump on. Used a few rivnuts to create the threads for bolts.

Been doing some hard thinking on why your turbo failed. It's because you didn't change out the pilot bearing. :icon14:

Some more fun to be had.

I’ve gotten better over the years, but the first time I plumbed a car with braided line, I ended up with more electrical tape on my fingers than the hose. |
Tracking number for the broke dik piece of **** Compturbo showed up. Cant wait to hang that on the wall of shame with a nice engraved plaque.
Good news is tracking number for new turbo showed up also. |
