finally got myself a decent jack Ordered this for 700$ but found this MotoMaster for 300$ at canadian tire. The other ones is half and inch lower but seeing as i'm not going to lower my car much it doesn't matter. Should easily be able to reach the front and rear service jack points now. Unfortunately it's too heavy to carry up and down stairs a lot. So it's going to live in the backyard covered in anti corrosive spray. (BH Atom Mac) |

Took the car in to XF motorsports today.
Had to wait an hour playing FF7Remake in the car till he showed up but no big deal. This stuff is going on: https://www.dropbox.com/s/kt51dh31y2...9.57.jpg?raw=1 Getting ready for Pinnacle Driving Academy level 1 on the 9th and Brack Driving Concepts level 2 on the 15th. |
Parts are in.
Weird throttle issue seems to have resolved itself. Sounds pretty good. There's a billion Invidia Gemini Exhaust clips on youtube but maybe i'll make a video about it. I didn't really notice any increased NVH from the stiffer mounts/bushings. Once my full power came back today I did notice it was a little bit more immediate putting the power down. Which is all I wanted. Exhaust doesn't seem to have any drone at city cruising speeds or high ways speeds. Really quiet under 3500 rpm. But decent deep sound up in the revs. Against just how I wanted it. |
This is the perfect level to take a street car.
Not in love with the price on this "restomod" but. The perfectly integrated motec dash and CAN pad. Launch control with automatic 2nd and 3rd gear upshifts. Perfectly upgrade interior with premium materials. No crazy overstyling. This is how I want my Z to turn out eventually. |
Had a huge amount of popping from the front of the car going over bumps.
Sway bars and end links were just installed and greased so. Weird I guess. I did wash the car so maybe that removed any lubrication. I sprayed down the sway bar mount area and endlinks in Boeshield T-9 for now and it went away. Going to order a grease gun and a tube of Prothane Super Grease for the sway bar. |

Which end links did you go with? I’ve heard some say that heim joint end links pop no matter what, just due to the nature of the heim joint having limited range. Others don’t have that issue tho Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
SPL end links
It came back today. It's pretty bad. On a street near my house it's pop city. At least 100 pops. I read on another forum they need to be installed with the wheels loaded. If installed with wheels unloaded (they definitely were installed that way). Then the suspension travel could cause popping. |
Quote:
Any preload on the links is probably causing them to pop when they hit the max range of travel on the heim joints. Yea definitely try to adjust them to have zero preload with the wheels loaded. Sounds like your situation is worse than usual tho. Weird Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Cleared my codes to see what popped up.
On my way to buy MAF cleaner I get a P0171. Which hopefully will go away when I clean the MAF. Hopefully I can get this fixed before the HPDE on Sat. |
I would not recommend XF motorsports as a performance garage.
They do some cool youtube videos, and the owner is very smart. But he seems more interested in building/racing his own cars, and doing parts design than properly working on a customers car. Didn't see a torque wrench used when installing any of the parts I had them do. Sway bar end links were installed on a four post lift and with the suspension at full droop. And the shop is a mess and they are not super professional. Going to try LP Europe motorsport next. It's a 5 min walk away from my place so it would be amazing if they turn out to be a great shop. |
LP europe was super professional and pleasant. Charged me for .5 hours of labour.
Adjusted and torqued the sway bar. noise is gone it seems, only drove it 2 minutes back to my house but didn't notice anything. MAF cleaning seems to have fixed my stumbling throttle limit issue as well. So hopefully I'm all set for Pinnacle Driving Academy tomorrow. |
Pinnacle course was amazing. Car performed flawlessly.
Lots and lots of understeer. Driver error mostly. No idea how the hotchkiss front bar affected that. As I'm finishing the 2 hour drive home. Check engine light. System too lean. Now not sure if the maf just somethow got dirty again. Or if it's malfunctioning. Guess I'll clean it again and see. Maybe I'll clean and re-oil my intake filters. EDIT: oh and surprise surprise. the owner and lead instructor used to own a 370z. Upgraded to a zl1 1le. |
So I'm preparing to clean my tb's just in case that's causing my CEL issue.
Watch forum member (and local toronto) member MotorvateDIYs video on how to clean the throttle bodies. Head out to take apart my intake hose and realize it was never properly connected after the engine mount installation. Tons of unmetered air allowed into the intake. I realized because in the video he shows the notches lining up. vs what i had: https://i.imgur.com/halutCt.jpg Now I wonder if redlining the car repeatedly at the track all day with this intake not connected properly could have caused any permanent damage. I would assume nissan would run the car rich to protect it in this instance, at least I hope so. I guess time will tell. Turned on the car and the CEL was gone. Finally had the last straw and left the shop a pretty scathing google review. Hopefully that will help warn people to not waste their time there. |

I'm glad the throttle body cleaning video helped! (https://youtu.be/ySK99VbSiTE) |
debating going all on on this or just grabbing the spl stuff for the rear

Bunch of random nismo pieces from nengun.
https://i.imgur.com/37IJhoZ.jpg And I'm going to try and mount these gt3 brake cooling spoilers and see if that can suit as a no bumper cutting brake cooling (minor) improvement. With bonus puppy. https://www.dropbox.com/s/k2cnzuo19w...8.32.jpg?raw=1 |

no time to try and mount the gt3 spoilers. but the other guy made a post about them showing off the mounting.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/aa5ketd46p...copy.jpg?raw=1 Got my dar spoiler today. Scuffed the thing walking up my stairs tho. It will have to wait until I get my bumpers/skirts so everything can get fresh paint all at once. Looks pretty good tho. The mounting is a little jank. Just 4 screws right into the wing itself to hold it down. Maybe i will drill them out and install some rivnuts. Switch to proper bolts. |
Loving the Nismo accessories! I’m may finally fork over some money to get the storage box now that I know it fits in the Z!

What a beautiful car.

Haven't bought shocks yet because I've been trying to learn more about them.
TLDR "separately adjustable preload and shock length" is actually just BS marketing. 2 piece shocks are just cost cutting. Not better than 1 piece like suspension companies would have you believe. They have less shock volume and travel, than a properly sized single piece shock body. I think that's narrowed down my suspension choices to a lot less shocks. Looking hard the the MCS 2WNR and Moton Clubsport now. |

But with 1 piece shocks you can’t incorrectly adjust ride height like every how-to video online says to!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

with the release of these I didn't really see any reason to pay over double for the SPL version anymore. Sure they have jam nuts and don't look as nice but they will do. |
Similar to the prodrive above with motec controlled paddle activated sequential.

Also, I didn't know that AMS hit a 9sec 1/4 time. I guess I'll need to get my 8.5 cage in my car and secure that time slip next year. :yum: |
more vr38 goodness
2000hp on a stock alu block is pretty great imo! |
Been thinking about trading in the Z for a C6 z06.
They really are two birds of a feather.
The C6 seems like such a logical upgrade. More power, more grip, easier to adjust suspension, lighter, better weight distribution, dry sump, easier/cheaper to upgrade (and require less upgrading to begin with). Problem is I don't want to get rid of my Z. |
