So I can by a motec ecu and 370z specific wiring harness from motec and plug them in? Always thought whatever vitviper made turned out to be vaporware. Finished but never actually purchasable.

It uses the M150 stand alone. They don't have a specific wiring harness for the Z. The ECU is tunable and has all the software. The wiring is the hard part.

Second Samsung tablet arrived for Brainiac kit. First one bought on Amazon was clearly poorly repaired. Cost $330. Found a brand new one on Amazon with 1 day shipping for $360. Only problem now is I need a windows computer to root the damn thing and I don't have one.

have to say I'm pretty annoyed with myself.
Heavy rain yesterday. The portions of the seatbelt that were inside the seatbelt track are wet. And the surrounding plastic seemed a little slimy. After looking at some threads here decide to make sure my weather stripping is properly seated. Broke the brittle black plastic on one of the b pillar clip retainers. Then completely cracked the a pillar plastic right above the driver door. Annoyed with myself but also annoyed with this damn car.

Ordered some more pointless stuff that I think is cool. (Carbon center console replacement)
Spending small money to avoid having enough to spend big money on actual upgrades.

The carbon parts are made in china so who knows how uniform the weave will be. Or how well the clips etc will line up.

Got it in matter carbon finish. If it looks good I may get some more done in matte.

Instagram is here https://www.instagram.com/onefor_z_forcarbon/
though i can't vouch as it will be 6 weeks or so before it arrives for inspection.

It does look pretty decent tho:

https://www.instagram.com/p/CNG6xdvH6Hf/

Getting pretty discouraged about modifications tho. Apparently in Ontario basically every insurance agency has a clause that if you don't disclose your modifications they can deny your claim. And if you do disclose your modifications 99.9999% of companies will not insure you.

And it's not that they will not cover $$ for the modifications. They can flat out deny any claim and then drop you from insurance forever. Having your insurance cancelled has to be disclosed to your next insurance provider preventing you from getting decent insurance.

The Insurance Dilemma with Modified Cars

From what I can tell everyone just lies to insurance and hope they get away with it. Hiding mods from insurance doesn't seem that hard unless someone rams your from behind totalling the car and the insurance agency has to send someone out to check it.

Which is really unfortunate because for me, the process of customization and upgrading over time is really the fun part. Not actually having the fast car.

got some "Diamond" cat mats i ordered a few weeks ago.

Fit pretty well. 165$ canadian.

Not sure if I keep them but they were an impulse buy anyway. Pretty sure all the 100 resellers of this come out of the same factory in China.

installed my grounding kit.
i know it probably does nothing but it was a small fun thing for me to do. didn't cost much.

dropped the negative battery terminal nut into the engine bay. Had to remove the batter and battery mount to get it. Almost didn't find it.
Lots of decaying leaves under the battery mount tho. Cleaned up the area as much as I could.

Really digging the bent and powercoated interior replacement parts skillard makes.

Wouldn't mind doing some of that for my interior.

My carbon center console is in china somewhere. Not sure when that's coming.

Replaced the intake filters today. Going to replace the cabin filter when i'm not so lazy. and picked up motul 600 for brakes and clutch. Castrol SRF was way too expensive.

The other day I sprayed my engine bay down with Citrol 266.

It's the only thing that was able to remove this strange adhesive residue on all the painted surfaces on the interior of my engine bay.

The adhesive surfaces had attracted so much dirt. That the engine bay paint looked like sandpaper. Couldn't get to it all but the adhesive turned milky white and was able to rub away. I wonder if that's some kind of anti corrosion coating that was sprayed in there. Either way it looked terrible.

Really envious of people who've taken out their engines to do a proper tuck and shave in there. One day.

and it did take a while of the "factory" doing the wrong order twice before they got it to what i asked them for.

been trying to uprate my suspension knowledge over this dreadful winter.

with all the talk about "best sway bars" floating around.

I know everyone says no bar rear and stiff bar front to prevent understeer. And some people try to explain that in a number of threads but I'll admit to still not getting it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYaoDgMCmtc

Found this to be a really good videos. Of course like every other video or article i read on the subject it contradicts the collective knowledge of all the actual track drivers in this forum. Just seems like the basics laid out don't apply to the 370z for some reason.

The only thing I can think of is that the inherent roll stiffness of the 370z is heavily rear biased. Causing excessive understeer. so much imbalance that even adding a heavy front bar and removing the rear bar won't flip the balance the other direction. It will just get you closer to 50/50 roll stiffness front and rear. /shrug.

True that it seems like the 370z platform contradicts everything online that stiffer bar reduces grip. It’s a fact that the overall grip of a car will be higher when the tires are more evenly loaded, which is the exact opposite of what a sway bar does (removes load from inside tire and applied it to the outside tire). So it’s especially confusing that having a stiffer front bar, which distributes the load more, actually increases front grip.

My understanding is that the z has a lot of roll in the front from the factory, which can make it more difficult to control the tires with respect to the ground, considering camber gain during roll. With a stiffer front bar, the tire is more controllable which makes setting up the car easier for achieving higher grip in most cases. BUT… I’m no expect, just trying to make sense of everything I can find online. I certainly don’t have enough track experience yet to justify how a sway bar change actually affects grip levels.

There's this, but he mentions adding a stiffer sway bar will increase the load on the outer tire. But everything in any video and article says that's the opposite that will happen. So I have no idea.

Another thing that I’m thinking about is that since the Z is front heavy, you’d think it would naturally oversteer. By adding a stiffer front bar, which typically would introduce more under steer, the Z would behave more neutrally. This should make the car easier to drive and possibly faster because of this.

Who knows….

i didn't delete that post fast enough i was remembering wrong.

Adding stiffer front bar would increase the load on the outside tire. which if the car had 50/50 roll stiffness would decrease the front grip.

And adding load to the outside tire, and removing it from the inside tire, causes lower overall grip. That’s just physics related to tire load sensitivity and the fact that the coefficient of friction decreases with higher tire load.

So it’s something else going on that makes the Z have less under steer with a stiffer front bar.

yeah exactly my confusion. Also would be interesting to know how many people with stock suspension or stock balance spring rates have done the roll bar thing. Or if they experienced the decrease in understeer with wildly different than stock balanced spring rates front/rear.

I don't think i'm going to really find an answer i guess. Like it would be easier to just buy suspension and tires and then test different sway bar setups to see what is most balanced.
But honestly I want to know why more than I care about the resulting handling.

Same here! The engineer side of my brain tells me I have to justify WHY it could possibly make sense even though it has been confirmed by all the track guys on here.

You are new. Most of the time they copy what someone else has done already. About like the new baffled oil pan that was launched today. Not even close tot he quality of the CJ-Motorsport one.
VR30 swap first one was done by MA-Motorsports, Not Z1.

Options are always good. They consistently come out with new products. When every other company has long since finished their development work on the car. I can only see it as a good thing.
