I'm hoping for a driveshaft option for us 7AT guys too, just to eliminate one more thing to figure out.
What are your thoughts on transmission cooling? I have a 25 row on the current 7AT. Sufficient for the DCT even at higher power levels at the track? |

For cooling, I dont have any good answers for that since we haven't used the trans for anything other than driving around on the street for a total of maybe 45 min so far! Seb was going into high power with it today, and still loves it. He does unfortunately need to tear it down and go inside the electronics on the side of the trans to make an electrical repair where the transmissions previous owner's wiring is causing an intermittent short that is blowing the TCM fuse randomly. He bought the trans from someone who was swapping it into another car, and had already performed the internal wiring. Apparently they didnt do a very good job so hes going to have to go in. Good for experience at least. |
Welp, he has already removed the trans, located the wiring short, and repaired it. He plans to put the trans back in and be back on the road for more testing this week. He’s just letting it sit a day or two for the epoxy that is sealing the wiring to settle.
It’s possible that this might be finished in it’s minimalist form. Then we can look into cool finishing touches. I am dying to see some video of shifting under high throttle. |

I read every single update on this build. Looking forward to more action :-)

And the test car is back on the road! It’s going good. I just received a couple vids of him going through a few gears in low boost taking it a little easy. Im leaning into him for some more spicy footage! If all stays well for this round, I hope to get him to try full send any day.

Hey phunk! I know you got a lot of irons in the fire but you need to get this conversion kit going like yesterday. I got to take a ride with Seb a week ago and all I can say is holy crap. It was phenomenal!!! The shifts were amazingly quick and the acceleration was seamless and powerful all the way through the gears. There is nothing like being pinned to the back of the seat for the whole run through the gears. I was speechless and didn't get any video because I was just so blow away and waiting for the next run. I know there are a few idiosyncrasies that Seb is working out but...come on man, this is a game changer for sure!!!:driving:

I need to spend a few hours and make a new "final edition" CAD file set that takes in the things I changed while machining and test fitting, which fortunately wasn't much. With that made, I am going to hand the files over to a machine shop to produce the adapter. I decided against machining them in-house. Aside from having my hands full on production, I really didnt have parts of this shape and size in mind when I was purchasing machinery. So its a little cumbersome for me to make anyway. Production will go start to finish much quicker this way than waiting for me. Once I clean up the CAD, I think I could get finished parts in 6 weeks maybe less. |
That sounds awesome! I know Seb has received a bunch of inquiries since he last posted Instagram. He has received over 3400 views on his last post of his test drive. Check it out if you get a chance!
