Weird stalling during boost

Having a strange boost issue ...just started today. Car is tuned to 14 lbs ..currently running 11 on the street ..has been consistent since last September with no issues. Not sure how to describe this issue ...going into boost and between 6-8 lbs car will stall like a intake pipe came off ...all boost drops and car feels like a limp mode ..will not accelerate until you let your foot off the gas and then it drives normal ....does not cut off or give any engine codes. If I try to boost again same thing. I checked for blown off or loose intake couplers everything looks good...nothing looks out the ordinary. Afr looks normal up till cutout then goes rich till I let gas pedal up then all normal. Maybe MAF sensor going out or over voltage ? Has anyone had this issue ?

Sounds like a boost cut safety feature. Check you wastegate to ensure it has not loosened up. I am thinking
you have an external wastegate?

Fuel maybe ?

Running a manual boost controller .. I would assume if it was a wastegate issue it would just not reach boost .. this actually kills throttle until I let the gas pedal up

Fuel seems fine no leaning out

Didn't you just change the wastegate springs? Did this happen before? Maybe something got screwy when you disassembled and reassembled the wastegate.

No I changed the springs last September before dyno tuning ... I wasn’t having any issues then either ... I just put in a lighter spring to make the manual boost controller less sensitive.

Gotcha. Sorry OP, got you confused with someone else.

Any DTCs?
Have you checked the MAP sensor?

No trouble codes ... not sure how you mean check the map sensors ... I did speak with Jon at Z1 he said to reflash the ecu ... so I’ll try that tonight

Dose it cut power violently
Because mine did it was fuel starvation even on a hard straight line pull
That's why I mentioned it

It does cut throttle pretty hard ... I have half a tank of fuel and haven’t had any issues before with less fuel .... but I’m not sure what fuel starvation acts like... and also this is happening on a straight away.... I also thought fuel starvation made the car cut off

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? Your factory top hat could have broken. 1/2 a tank is about when everyone else with the issue noticed it.

I have a pressure gauge under the hood it’s reading same as when tuned ...
I still had the issue on the way to work ....on the way home eased into boost was smooth to about 11 lbs no issues ....tested it several times more aggressively each time no issue....get home reflashed the ECU since Jon suggested that one thing I noticed as I was getting out of the car was the window normally drops about 1/4 inch when the door opens ...well it would drop , then go back up and drop randomly with the door just open each time the display that says open door would come on and go off ....sooo I put up my laptop and cables started the car up idled fine ..revved fine ...2 step fine and window was normal ....

My car has a gremlin

Yep mine would do it with that level of fuel on a hard enough pull
I and it was like a violent head but the wheel cut out for a split second and then the pump would pick up again

I have a second pump feeding the stock bucket now like z1s idea

Again not saying this is the issue but a simple one to rule out/test

I ran some test runs last night and this morning ... haven’t had the issue pulling 11 lbs smoothly ... I’m keeping my eye on it .. and I’ll go through it more this weekend

Test with a full tank and see if that clears it up. If the top hat on the fuel pump has broken (mine did) it will cause fuel feed issues.

JARblue 07-12-2019 01:50 PM

For reference, my stock fuel pump top hat broke and I experienced full fuel starve with more than 3/4 full tank. Car shut down and wouldn't start up. Had other times since where the car sputtered hard on the throttle out of a turn before recovering. Now I have the CJM billet top hat and Road Race Pump Kit :driving:

When mine cut out it never cut off ....it would just decrease rpms even with pedal still to the floor ...if I lift the pedal up it would idle normal ....and start working normally ......haven’t had the issue since reflashing
