Default Turbo Recommendation

Hey Guys,

I am looking for any input/advice from seasoned FI guys regarding a turbo recommendation. I am going to pre-order the DOC Race kit, but they offer several turbo choices and that is where I am stuck. My goals are to covert to e85 and aim for ~525WHP. Which would be the best turbo for that power goal? I don't want something that will take forever to spool, but at the same time I don't want to max out the turbo. Appreciate the help.

6465 would be perfect and the vband inlet will spool very quickly that or the 6265 would work for your goals

Never heard of DOC. I would stick to Fast Intentions, SOHO Motorsports, or Boosted Performance turbo kits. You are just asking for trouble buying one from an unknown company. Buy the way, every pre-order sale that I have seen has been a disaster. Folks plopping down big money and they get nothing. I would never ever do a pre-order kit that nobody is running. GTM comes to mind and also the AAM intake are such fiasco's that many folks had issues with.

I understand your concern, however, I have experience with their products in the past and have not had any issues. Further, I've already contacted my bank to ensure that I am covered in the event that the company does not deliver on their product. That is, Chase will protect the purchase up to 118 days from the day the product is due to be delivered (not the purchase date).

So what happens when the kit is not delivered within the 118 days of the promised delivery date?

So, let's assume two things:

1. the 'expected' delivery date from DOC is 9/1/19
2. DOC is unable to fulfill the order for X reason

Do you really think I am going to just sit back and wait an additional 118 days for them to fulfill the order? No, I will not. If 9/1 rolls around and there is no kit and no updated delivery date I will request a refund and contact my bank to inform them of what is going on.

Granted, I'm not sure what this has to do with my request for a turbo recommendation.

I will tell you why, because we have seen many folks taken advantage of and lose 7-8k. If you pay for the kit and the seller has no money to give back because they spent it all or went bankrupt, your bank will not be able to get your money back. In the end, you will be refunded nothing. There was a big stink about it with GTM on here years back. Many folks lost everything and got nothing.

Again, I understand your concern and appreciate you bringing this up to help out the community. I've done what I can to mitigate the risk, but this scenario could happen with any vendor currently producing products for our platform. I trust that Chase would be able to dispute the charge and refund my credit account should the worst happen.

Now, do you have a recommendation as to which size turbo would be optimal?

Do any of those offer a ball bearing option? It looked like they were all journal bearing but I only gave it a quick glance.

Yes, the options listed in the poll are of the ball bearing variety.

Ok. Twinscroll?

The only thing I can really add is that you need to carefully read the compressor map, do all the VE math, and figure out exactly the right size turbo. And then buy the next size up. Seriously, the correctly sized turbo is always just a little too small.

I also feel like this is a truth with no explanation. And the one-size-up never seems to make much difference in spool.

I do not believe it is twin scroll; will confirm.

Yeah, I agree. I was leaning towards the 6465R, but will likely opt for the 6765R.

Appreciate the constructive feedback.
