Default Afr vs timing

I tried searching for this but didn’t have much luck ..I was wondering if too much advance timing would cause a lean condition in the AFR gauge ... what Im wanting to do and not sure if it would work or not ... I’m running methanol injection on my boosted Z ... I was wanting to use a solenoid in the boost controller to opens wastegates to default spring pressure with the signal from the AFR gauge in a lean condition as a safety for the methanol injection (pump failure.. out of methanol.. loss of flow situations etc..)... after thinking about it I’m not sure If the methanol fails if the added timing would be detected as a lean condition. My tune is set at 8lbs boost to trigger the meth spray ... I’m assuming the fuel would be lowered for anticipation of the added methanol and timing ... so would it be picked up as leaning out to trip the solenoid ?

Too much timing would not cause a lean condition. Too much timing with a higher AFR( and low octane gas ) can certainly cause detonation.

You dont want to use the methanol system to increase your AFR, but to cool the intake charge and increase the overall octane level.

If the methanol system fails and you use it heavily for increasing/setting the AFR, you can easily burn up pistons regardless of the of timing. Increasing the timing will only make it that much easier.

Best thing to do is make sure you have the right fuel pump and injectors to support the AFR and power level you want.

I have injectors and fuel pump that can handle the boost ....I have two tunes one for 93 octane and another with methanol ...both set for the same boost pressure ...just the one for meth was tuned with more timing ....was looking for a way to add a safety for the methanol in case of a failure ...there used to be a system that would open the wastegates if the flow dropped but they don’t make it anymore

AEM Electronics make a flow meter that could be wired into an electronic boost controller that could open the waste gate if the methanol flow/pressure drops.

Cant really find the AEM one ..I can still find snow performance failsafe ..but it has been discontinued and I found out snow performance has been bought out by nitrous express last month and the are a little scrambled right now I found this one one but not sure if it is any good or if it would work

Here is the flow meter.

But it looks like they have come out with a fail safe setup:

Ok I thought it was just a gauge with display warning lights ...I see it can open the waste gates as well .....didn’t really want another gauge tho ...I’ll have to find a place to locate it
