Forced Induction Z owners in Ohio?

Hello,

I have accepted my first real job as an engineer for Honda R&D in Raymond OH. I am very seriously considering going forced induction. I will finally have the funds to be able to safely say, "I can afford to put away this much money for Twins or the new RJM Performance Supercharger". But people say that you should ride in both and experience both. And there is still a significant price gap between the two systems. I have been reading a lot of forum posts about people who have done the Stillen S/C and who have done turbos instead. I understand the fact that if someone is going to be power hungry that a S/C just won't do. I haven't really driven all that many 400+ WHP vehicles so I can't really say for sure where I will be satisfied. But I also daily my Z so I don't exactly want something that becomes a vehicle that I can't just sit down and drive. (it would be either start saving for a daily and then start saving for FI or make sure my daily stays my daily).

I have always wanted a turbo car but I love the whine of the Terminator Cobra's supercharger, because it gives just as much emotion and awesomeness from that sound as well. I don't think that I am really interested horsepower wars over getting X WHP. Kind of thinking the RJM kit that is up for preorder might be that perfect middle ground.

TLDR: Anyone living near Columbus OH who would be interested in letting me ride along in their boosted Z in the next few months? Or after winter, really I won't be financially able to pull the trigger until a while into my actual employment. Just trying to get all the ducks in a row.

I have twins on my car, it’s very user friendly as far as daily driving goes, although having a daily you won’t want to modify is a must cause when/if something goes down sometimes it takes a while just to order the right parts.

As for Turbo vs SC it’s really preference. Me personally an import with a turbo and blow off sounds way better, save the SC for the V8’s. But also, I’m close to full boost by 3500rpms so the torque in my set up is very smooth. You can get a reliable 500+whp out of our cars and not have to worry about a thing.

Can't help you personally but check out the Ohio G/Z/GTR and friends group on facebook. A lot of the members are in the Columbus area.

Also congrats on the Honda job. You should see about getting involved with the HART autocross group once you start.

Thank you all for the responses! A lot of what I am hearing is that its all personal preference.

JSur, I agree with the turbo with blow off valve as an import, but tbh its mostly the sound of it that gets me. I love the sound and its less obnoxious than revving hard but still says "hey don't mess with me, i'm scarier than you think". the thing that sways me about our Z34 is, its just about as muscle'y as an import gets (the first generation celica excluded, that thing looks pretty "muscle car"). So I think she walks in both worlds a little.

gomer_110, I will look into that facebook group absolutely, thanks for the heads up! and thank you for the congrats!

danegray, thank you! I am very lucky. Most of my thanks goes to Formula SAE, couldn't have gotten the opportunity without it.

Congrats on the new job and maybe you can help out them out with their F1 motor LOL!

I am a fan of the Fast Intentions twin turbo kit. I am still running the first production kit that was installed by SpecialtyZ. I have over 35K miles on the kit with about 7 to 10k track miles and the car is still running strong on a stock block. She make over 600 whp and is as daily driveable as she was bone stock.

I'd go with TopgunZ's SC kit or a Boosted Performance single turbo kit if I was in your shoes. RJM doesn't really give me a whole lot of confidence as a shop.
