Which is why I specified V1 vs V2. The compressor housing and routing of charge pipes is different between the two. V1 kits are smaller diameter inlet for the turbo housings

Not all the V2 had the larger inlet, it just depended on if you got the ported compressor cover or not. I upgraded my V1 kit for the cold side piping, so I have basically a V1.5.

Sigh:
"The second reason (a result of the first) is the turbo options that will be available with the newly redesigned piping. With the new manifold the turbo sits at a slightly different location (very close to the previous). This allows me to use turbos that have the SP (S ported) compressor covers. These have a 4" inlet and a 2.5" outlet (vs 3.0" inlet and 2.0" outlet)."

I have the oil less 6267 which was just updated to the newer center section design 6467 ...and am going on 2 years and haven’t had any issues with filters melting (40k miles).....I would like the intake kit just to make cleaning the filter easier without having to remove the turbo

Boosted Performance 11-30-2019 07:46 PM

This is the first time I am reading these air filter issues. The purpose of the intake was not because of the heat, and air filter damage (which was completely unknown to me), the purpose was solely to make the air filter easier to service/clean. That was it, not other reason.

I will make a few more of these intakes, and offer them as upgrades. I had to test the new engine mount as well on my own car before offering it to others. I now have about 5,000 trouble free miles on my own car, so I have a high degree of confidence that it works well.

EDIT: The only time I have heard of a heat issue damaging an air filter was on the dyno, with continuous pulls without letting things cool down a bit. This of course is due to lack of
air movement in the area due to the fact the car is stationary.

Sigh back at you. You obviously weren’t around back then and just going by what was posted and reflecting on it. There were e (none ported) compressor cover turbos at first.

I’m just pointing out that one shouldn’t make a blanket statement that there are heat issues melting filters when it isn’t involved with every kit.

I’m with you. I see the intake as a bonus because you no longer have to drop the turbo to change a filter. That alone is worth the price of admission.

Please.....The quoted statement wasn't mine it was Sasha's from the original offering. If someone bought a V2 kit as advertised the turbo kit came with had a 4" inlet with 2.5" outlet chargepipes underneath. This isn't an argument it's a statement of fact. If someone had a V1 and wanted to upgrade or bought a V2 manifold and chargepipes then settled for a Gen1 turbo then they have a V1.5 or whatever kind of hybrid they want to call it.
Fact is, you were being presumptuous by indicating you had no issues prior to knowing all the circumstances. If you have a V1 manifold your flange is in a different location. Half an inch or an inch of air insulation can make a world of difference with radiant heat. I've replaced 5 filter personally due to heat damage and it's not because I read something on the forum. At this point I'm confident I'm at the top of the pile as far as knowing.
I know this without thinking hard.
BUSCHUR Racing 20 degree filter 90.00 plus shipping. I've answered many a pm to that question.
Yes ,there's a problem.

So I had to see what I can do to improve on what I am reading in this thread. Again, if I had know that some of you were having some issues, I would have done this a while back. This is what I came up with, as it sounds like the heat coming from the flanges is an issue.

With the previous version of the heat shield I was concerned about shielding the filter screen itself, so the shield sat further forward. With the revision, the flange is also taken into consideration:

The lower flange bolt will need to be longer, instead of 1.5" it would need to be 2", so that the secondary nut can in installed (which holds the heat shield), after the flange bolt has been tightened.

I’m still in for the intake kit.

This is coming from a buddy who runs this kit.

Five filters in , and having actual filters to judge, I can absolutely confirm the flange is the area responsible. After trying several methods of mitigating the heat the extension of the shield backwards will be effective for a short time but the end result will be a hardening of the silicone and eventual splitting of the base of the actual element from the inlet neck. But from looking at your piece if the inner surface of the shield were lined with 1/4" Heatshield Products Header Armor it would shut down the issue of filter melt.
That said, I could use a discount on a front mount for my R and D efforts
