Methanol injection

Looking to install on car.
Where did you put the tank? Also what size tank?
Have searched several treads but I'm blocked by photbucket to see the pics.

i am in the middle of my research about adding meth to my setup.. i plan to run it for cooling purposes at the beginning then use it as octane booster to push harder on pump without spending $$$ on race gas.

i am thinking of the snow kit but i haven't decided yet. i guess the best location is where the spare tire sits. enough space for the pump and the tank.

i like how soho did it though.

Thanks for imput.
I have already used that spot for air tank and compressor.I will figure something out.Maybee build custom tank to fit somewhere.

I know quite a few people that ran the AEM water/methanol injection kits and the Snow Performance stage 1 and stage 2 water/methanol injection kits on Z’s. On the Z you are limited on space and you will have to get creative. All the kits I have seen on Z’s people were routing them to the trunk. If you ran a one gallon tank you will have more room to put it somewhere but you will have to fill it more often though.

On my meth setup I used the windshield wiper tank. I was also able to mount the pump with a bracket that I added to the crash bar.

Having a meth tank outside of the frame seams like a fire hazard... Kinda like a pinto in reverse.

ihiryu 04-25-2018 06:03 PM

While meth does catch fire, it would need an actual ignition source. Even if you poured 50/50 mix on a hot header, or manifold, it'snot going to catch fire.

However, it would would a spark, but so would brake fluid, power steering fluid, or engine oil, believe it or not.

That's probably how Ford justified their tank location.
On the corvette forum a guy took measurements of his header temps
900F at idle, 1300 under load... Autoignition is at 999F for methane so it definitely could catch fire if poured on the header of a car being driven hard. Which is probably would have been if you just rear ended someone.

Quick stats...

Chuck33079 04-26-2018 08:38 AM

I ran meth on my previous car, and my tuner strongly recommended always running a 50/50 mix specifically because it has a much lower fire risk - especially when you take into account that many of the systems put the tank in the passenger compartment.

B&W_Evader 04-26-2018 08:50 AM

Didn't find anything on the 50/50 mix but my guess is that it would still be somewhere in between the two.

Burning alive seems like one of the worst ways to go so you may want to do some research and think about it a little. You won't be wearing Nomex every time you get in the car. A famous actor known for his on-screen driving comes to mind...

I'm going to make custom tank to fit in engine compartment.Yes I should go with 50/50 mix.I have done so many things to car that it is hard to find room.

Why not do it in the trunk if you're worried about it? I mounted my nitrous tank (when I was still on nitrous), right after little fake harness bar thing. When you pull the plastics off, you'll see two pieces of foam that you can remove.

The only other thing you have to do is relocate the antennae for the smart key. The harness is long enough for you to just remove it and flip it over.

Also, have you ever looked at the location of the wiper tank? It's about a gallon, and in front of the tire, and the headers/turbo manifolds are covered by the chassis itself. I do suppose you're right, that there is a chance that it could potentially catch fire, but just don't know the likelihood of it.

Better safe than sorry I suppose. I've ran my meth this way for years since it's compact, and one thing people forget about mounting the tank and pump in the back is that you do LOSE pressure in the line.

So realistically speaking, I probably will go down to a 70/30 mix, for safety reasons, fortunately enough I haven't tuned for this mix, so it's not that huge of a deal.

:hello:

I use 50/50 mix in the trunk area. The water also cuts down on corrosion.

My motor is still alive if you can believe it. :icon14:
