The thing is most people want all the power and thrill of high performance without the cost or issues that comes with high performance and running on the ragged edge. Very few are will and committed and for the builder/tuner/shop there are no accolades for engine failures by most even though they are doing what the customer wants and if there is not that loyalty between the two, the consequences are always greater for the one doing the build.
What is interesting is that I see as many issues or more with those that stay NA, the only difference is how much you are willing to pay!

I would take a stock engine at 750whp over built motor at 750whp any day of the week, especially if your not doing all the work yourself. Proper tuning and I personally think 750 on the stock engine is a better advantage for most people. The average person doesn't understand the theories of fasteners and engine building to get a built motor to last that long. From what i see in this community people are fed false information and they don't put the time or effort into the proper building principles. No shop wants to build a 1000whp car because they cant make money off the things needed for R&D ect. They would make no money. The Z community doesn't have the enough volume to waist there time for R&D. The gtr community is so far ahead because there are 1000's of 1000hp builds already so they know exactly what happens at that power and what needs to be obtained for reliability.

I don't think that is always the case. There are some shops that do outstanding work. I haven't had someone else work on my car in years. This will be the first time in a long time. I am just not physically able to do the big stuff anymore. I can, but I will pay for it in kind. I have confidence that I have chosen Wisely. Only two shops would I trust to do it. One is on the East coast and one is on the West coast. But that is just my .02.

There are definitely shops out there that are capable of it. Just very few.
GTR is lame for the most part and definitely a "pecker swinger" car. Last edited by Streetz; 03-15-2018 at 04:51 PM. |

I got quoted $525.00 per month for car insurance alone! And in SC we have those yearly property taxes on vehicles (pending value)... so add another 2-4,000 per year & that’s 8-10K yearly, just to sit in the front yard,,,no thanks!

It's like Christmas when you were a kid and didn't know who was really Santa Claus. You put a parts list together and think " I should be able to make this Hp/Tq". The crazy part is you may make that number or you may not. You may make much more than what is expected. You just don't know until it is done. So, it's like Christmas morning. I have a long time to wait though. No doubt I have my Sears and Roebuck Wish book out dog earing pages and making a list whilst checking it twice.

One more question. Did you heat cycle the engine and tear it back apart to re-torque the head studs? That is the most important thing in the diesel world to keep a head gasket sealed up tight when using ARP studs. Many folks had failures if they left off this step. The ARP 425 could take 3 heat cycles before they wouldn't move any more. That is why ARP came out with 625's, they only need one heat cycle and re-torque.

This guy came up with a unique way of heat cycling a 2JZ. You would have to do something similar with our engines or it would be a complete pain in the butt.

Talked with Ray at MA-Motorsports today. Nice fellow. I told him I have a 1975 Datsun 280zt. He wants to work on that car. Maybe one day he will. I need a standalone ECU for it. It is tuned old school which leaves a lot to be desired. That is a build thread for a different date.
