Thanks for the heads up. I would be aggravated to say the least.

Remember that rabbit hole the guys kept telling you about? You can find me down there.
Way.
Way.
Down there (if you know what I mean). Until I no longer have the desire to do so... I will ALWAYS push this platform. Further, bigger, badder.

The rabbit hole is full of shiny things and I like shiny things. I tell my self no but they have power over me. Unfortunately I think Rusty is right, I will be done when there is no more money.

A little birdy told me that the 1/2 mile record is still 156mph set by SOHO Motorsports. I may have to go to Wanno go Fast in Clayton, Ga. and see what I can do when this is done.

I like shinny things.

On the bright side, Z being 10 yrs young, it's a great feeling to see many owners still producing these high quality builds.

I do not see an event in Ga. this year yet. I do see one in Ocala, Fl. which is closer for me.

Only 30 minutes from me. I’ll have to go spectate.

IMHO the reasons the industry is tight lipped is owner pride or allegiance, and perpetually more impossible consumer expectations. The reality versus the perceived reality are 2 very different things. Building your engine and going for 1000+ hp is a lifestyle choice. Lots of exciting marketing and media on the internet is aimed to make it look like its all winning and high fives. All I can say is, saddle up folks.

Rusty 03-14-2018 01:49 PM

When I was running my '78 Trans Am. I went through 4 Pontiac 400 motors. I was trying to increase the power level each time, but only to find the next weak point. Not too many people at the time was sharing or willing to share info on how to keep the motor together. So after 4 motors. I switched to big block chevy. Problems solved.

Hotrodz 03-14-2018 11:49 PM

The thing is most people want all the power and thrill of high performance without the cost or issues that comes with high performance and running on the ragged edge. Very few are will and committed and for the builder/tuner/shop there are no accolades for engine failures by most even though they are doing what the customer wants and if there is not that loyalty between the two, the consequences are always greater for the one doing the build.

What is interesting is that I see as many issues or more with those that stay NA, the only difference is how much you are willing to pay!:driving:

Streetz 03-15-2018 12:32 PM

I would take a stock engine at 750whp over built motor at 750whp any day of the week, especially if your not doing all the work yourself. Proper tuning and I personally think 750 on the stock engine is a better advantage for most people. The average person doesn't understand the theories of fasteners and engine building to get a built motor to last that long. From what i see in this community people are fed false information and they don't put the time or effort into the proper building principles. No shop wants to build a 1000whp car because they cant make money off the things needed for R&D ect. They would make no money. The Z community doesn't have the enough volume to waist there time for R&D. The gtr community is so far ahead because there are 1000's of 1000hp builds already so they know exactly what happens at that power and what needs to be obtained for reliability.

I don't know if there are thousands of 1k whp gtrs out there as much as those folks have the money to pay for r&d. You are dealing with a totally different demographic than the majority of Z owners! I love the gtr for what is but it's mostly a pecker swinging contest even with those that track their car. I have more positive interactions with Porsche owners than gtr owners.

Back on topic...so what is the next shiny thing you need?

I don't think that is always the case. There are some shops that do outstanding work. I haven't had someone else work on my car in years. This will be the first time in a long time. I am just not physically able to do the big stuff anymore. I can, but I will pay for it in kind. I have confidence that I have chosen Wisely. Only two shops would I trust to do it. One is on the East coast and one is on the West coast. But that is just my .02.

There are definitely shops out there that are capable of it. Just very few.

GTR is lame for the most part and definitely a "pecker swinger" car.

Agreed on the “Pecker-Swinger” ,,, as being over 50 w/good driving record & good credit;
I got quoted $525.00 per month for car insurance alone! And in SC we have those yearly property taxes on vehicles (pending value)... so add another 2-4,000 per year & that’s 8-10K yearly, just to sit in the front yard,,,no thanks!

It's like Christmas when you were a kid and didn't know who was really Santa Claus. You put a parts list together and think " I should be able to make this Hp/Tq". The crazy part is you may make that number or you may not. You may make much more than what is expected. You just don't know until it is done. So, it's like Christmas morning. I have a long time to wait though. No doubt I have my Sears and Roebuck Wish book out dog earing pages and making a list whilst checking it twice.

One more question. Did you heat cycle the engine and tear it back apart to re-torque the head studs? That is the most important thing in the diesel world to keep a head gasket sealed up tight when using ARP studs. Many folks had failures if they left off this step. The ARP 425 could take 3 heat cycles before they wouldn't move any more. That is why ARP came out with 625's, they only need one heat cycle and re-torque.

Spooler 03-17-2018 10:40 PM

This guy came up with a unique way of heat cycling a 2JZ. You would have to do something similar with our engines or it would be a complete pain in the butt.

Sorry to hear... What rod brand?

Talked with Ray at MA-Motorsports today. Nice fellow. I told him I have a 1975 Datsun 280zt. He wants to work on that car. Maybe one day he will. I need a standalone ECU for it. It is tuned old school which leaves a lot to be desired. That is a build thread for a different date.

LOL, I hear yeah. I am going to keep it old school with the L28et engine. I am not even considering dropping in a RB26. I am going to do a 3.2 liter stroker motor though. The tricky part is finding an old L28 guy to unshroud the valve and do a proper port/polish. I need to find some triple Mikuni throttle bodies to modify for a set of dual injectors (12 total). Like I said, this is a build thread for a later date. That build thread will make this one look small. I know exactly what I want to do, just need the money. LOL I need to go visit Hotrodz's house to pick money off of his money tree.

This is my dream car. One day, One day.... I will build it exactly like I want it. I will do it for Bill. My best friend that passed away 2 years ago. I saw him before he passed, he just wanted to do one more car. Well, this one is it.

Everything is coming along as planned. It is the set back and wait time period. Nothing to report. Long way to go until the car goes under the knife the first week of June.

Considering your FI TT is like #75, and gonna have a built engine w/bell’s & whistles...it definitely won’t be a slouch!
