This has been an ongoing issue with this blower for a number of years. What's happening is that the output shaft seal is leaking hot compressed air into the housing, which causes the oil to plash upwards. The only real solution I've seen to this was to plug BOTH sides, since it is a self-contained unit.
Edit: Rusty's idea sounds pretty good imo. Last edited by milkcow500; 06-27-2018 at 12:42 AM. |

Here's an article from SOHO Motorsports blog where they mention over spinning the supercharger and oil coming out of the breather at high rpm/boost. Of course I think Ben's car was seeing about 18psi.

This is exactly what I've been thinking and have purchased a few cheap bits and pieces to make something like this up. |

I'd love to do that but am too worried that the little breather really needs to breathe. I would have thought it's designed that way for a reason. |

I've been told that it isn't necessary, but it's really not a definite known. To put it in perspective, the procharger is a very similar design and it does not utilize a vent plug. I know a couple people who have ran with no vent, but no real long term testing yet.

I've read back through the posts, and couldn't find what your target psi was...do you know approximately where you were at when you experienced the leak? Were you at 18psi?

Mine did this when it was still stock @ 9PSI, I had fluid all over my windshield. Funny cause they tried to blame me at first saying I had power washed my engine and push water into the unit :/

My set up is only good up to 13 PSI max I believe. I do not have the correct pulley setup yet to make it 18 psi. I do have the 928 fully upgraded parts but only using a 3.0" SC pulley with the stock idler + 3.2" SC pulley on the SC belt side. |

- 928 impeller/rebuild
- 3.0" Vortech SC Pulley + Stock 3.2" Pulley + Stock Idler Pulley = Supercharger belt side - Stillen 9PSI Pulley - Way too much overspin at higher RPM's = oil spouts out. I have the shipping plug (non-vented plug) with me in case I need a last resort to solve the issue but, I don't want to risk seals blowing out yenno? I also e-mailed Carl from 928 to see if he had any ideas to circumvent or fix this issue other than what was already shared on this thread. Will let you guys know if he has any plausible solutions!

So, Carl from 928motorsports e-mailed me back with a response to the leak issue.
He told me to use his calculator on 928 website to find out how much I am actually spinning assuming no slip. The calculator has 3 components: (1) Size of Crank Pulley Diameter (2) Size of Blower Pulley Diameter (3) Internal Blower Setup Ratio for V3 (4) Max Engine RPM Is the crank pulley the diameter of my ATI crank pulley that I had put in? 5.5"? Is the blower pulley diameter .. I don't know? Isn't there 3 different pulleys on the supercharger belt? 2 SC pulleys and 1 idler pulley? I changed out one of the stock 3.2" SC pulleys for a 3.0" so would I put 3.0? Max Engine RPM speed = 7.5k ish? Anyone can help? SOHO responded but didnt really answer my question, so Im not even going to post what they said.
