I thought Cali had that no visual mod law. Think a SC jutting out of the hood would be a dead giveaway.

That's why we get the stillen kit, as long as you have the CARB sticker, you're okay. Most smog shops won't know if you added the a2a kit. All that they do is plug into the obd2 port and as long as your not showing any codes you should be okay.

so many just ridiculous laws in cali, hence why i could never move there. love no cats on my cars and other mods :driving:

We do have the stupidist smog laws. As long as they don't look under the car during the test (and I've never had anyone do that), you can get away with not running cats

Yes, of course it has to do with CA. Smog. I haven't been able to get myself to pull the trigger on the Stillen kit because of the MAF sensor position. I think this is the best SC kit out there and I'm trying to decide what level of PITA I'll be living with. Pulled the engine and tranny out of my 69 Vette a couple of times. Not that big of a deal. Tranny linkage is what everyone's paranoid on that one but adjusting it is pretty easy. I can build it off line if I've got a spare engine and tranny. If I blow it up I still have the original to put back in. I'm guessing it would be about 12 hrs the first time could bring it down to 5 or 6 after that.

I think most Smog stations would pick up on the ATA kit but maybe you Cali guys who've done the upgrade can comment. Other option would be to pull the ATA and run no intercooler during smog, then put it back on for "normal" driving. That would mean rotating the SC each time or having a second.

So... you bought the stillen CARB kit (with the sticker) and the A2A and you've had your car smogged? How many times have you achieved this?

i honestly think i would buy another Z over swapping engines for ridiculous BS smog laws lol

370's are super cheap now and in my mind that is wroth not dropping a block to appease hippy lawmakers.

:tiphat:

Those hippy lawmakers ain't so compassionate for your average automobile enthusiast.

obviously lol

PA has the most ridiculous set of auto laws i've ever read however no CARB and also lighter enforcement unless the cop is a dbag or having a bad day.

i've ran straight pipes for 4 years or so and i've been stopped more to talk about the car than an infraction lol

last actual stop was 99 in a 55 but the cop discussed the car and saw i had numbers on the window from the strip and was asking what it ran lol then let me go with "driving in the left lane not for passing" $115 fine and no points i was ok with it.

I doubt that many smog stations even know what the Stillen kit is and wouldn't visually know what parts come with the kit. At least the one's I've been to in the past with my Eclipse only care about having the CARB sticker. As long as you have the CARB sticker and it's not showing any codes they have their *** covered legally.

I didn't buy the CARB approved stillen kit. My car is a 2017 so I don't have to worry about smog for a few more years. Send me a PM and we can talk more about my situation.

JARblue 09-27-2018 09:58 AM

Well, there you go. Just trade out for a car that's new enough you don't have to worry about it. Repeat every few years.

Not sure what buying another Z is going to achieve, he eventually would have to smog the sc Z in order to legally drive it. Unless he just switched license plates. :driving:

I can tune both the a2w and the a2a on ecutek and guarantee that you will pass smog in CA and the car will pull hard and drive perfectly as a daily. I recently had a customer drive his a2w G37 to death valley this summer and he had zero issues, over 40k miles on the kit over the past 5 years, all hard miles full of redline pulls. With the a2a you would fail visual of course.
