I am looking into a Z, and previously had a BRZ but the oil pressure light/ oil level never came on then boom the motor spun a bearing. When the motor was removed to assess the damage, there was no oil in the oil pan...
I wonder if any of these manufacture sensors are truly functional...

There is no gauge or light that will replace checking your oil. Once the light comes on or the oil pressure drops, it is too late. The damage is done.

Normal idle oil pressure is about 35 lbs. I have the warning light on my gauge set at 30 lbs. Hopefully if anything happens. I will be able to shut it down before damage. The factory warning light pops on at about 5 lbs.

Since the OEM sensor is just a switch... I wonder if maybe we can replace it with one that has a more meaningful threshold (like the 30# you have your warning set to).

Yes you can - as long as it's a mechanical switch and compatible with engine oil. Might have to use an adapter to match pipe threads. If you can figure out which sending unit has the setting you want, it should be an easy job. You may be able to order what you need from McMaster-Carr, et al.

Edit: And the switch action (NO or NC) needs to match.

Hey guys, one question regarding the part number. I'm scheduling a preventative gallery gasket replacement and I have ordered the gallery gaskets as per the part number: 13533-JK21A. The part arrived and the guys at Nissan tell me that the part which arrived doesn't quite seem like it's fully metal - more like mixture of paper-like gasket as well as the metal one. Is that OK? I mean, are the renewed gaskets FULLY metal, or are they more like a mixture of both?

Thanks for the info!

I believe those are the new Nissan gaskets - more like a mixture of cardboard and staples.

Tell them to refund your money and get the EPS kit if you can :twocents:

Meh, not really, I'm in Slovenia and it seems they don't ship there.
Are the renewed gaskets that bad? I mean, I believe they are factory installed on newer models which have no gasket issues, so I guess they should be good enough, right?

The newer gaskets are probably fine. It's not just the gasket material but also the hardware they used that can cause problems - the EPS kit includes new hardware too. The Nissan bolts tend to back out on their own over time which allows oil to pass by the gaskets and eventually they may blow out.

If you have to go with the Nissan kit, just make sure they stake the bolts when installing the new gaskets.
