I wonder how reliable this setup would be without the oil cooler, some of us setups similar to this but don't plan on tracking often

Its a basic safety margin item, regardless whether you will track it or not I would recommend an oil cooler.

Yes..:iagree:....It would be stupid to spend this much money and not include a $300-400 oil cooler in the equation...

motoextreme 12-25-2009 02:48 PM

If your dropping 15-20K for this set up (after install) then 300-400 is nothing. Personally I can't afford it, really hoping the SC kits come in much less regardless of whom builds it.

One SWEET set up though! Would be cool to roll up to a light with this thing and take down pretty much anything in a somewhat conservative looking ride.

NYBladeZ 12-26-2009 08:22 AM

last I checked oil cooler kits, unless they are home made, are a lot more than $300-400

motoextreme 12-26-2009 09:42 AM

I believe I saw the Stillen set up as low as mid 4's, can't recall which but there's another one on the sponsors site in the high 3's.

Not saying I'm going to go for one of the cheaper ones but they are out there. Personally I'd rather not compromise on such an important part but I'd have to think the Stillen set up is reliable.

True, but even at 1k its necessary. The 370z as is has cooling issues, adding forced induction will work the engine more. Not taking a shot, but guys have to understand just because a kit states 6k that isn't the entire cost. I would at a minimum budget for 3k over for maintenance or safety related items.

NYBladeZ 12-26-2009 03:35 PM

lol if you find a kit for 6k point me in that direction. No TT setup is that cheap and the prices for SC's haven't been released.

JSD-ZX 12-26-2009 05:05 PM

lol, ok literal guy. The point is whatever the xxxx.xx amount is, you should budget with more. No one should even consider force induction if it has to be asked whether an oil cooler is optional. That's an attempt to skimp and remember you get what you pay for.

IMO, whether or not to get an oil cooler should really depend on how you plan to drive the car. I agree that it is "nice to have" for a stock block build ... but are you really planning to be in boost all the time in a daily driver? If not, the motor shouldn't see much added stress beyond stock N/A levels.

GTM, this setup looks amazing but the TQ numbers are nothing like anything any of us have seen from any of the other TT dynos. I'm not questioning the validity of those numbers but just very interested in what you guys have done differently to make this much TQ, it's really quite impressive!! :excited:

The VQ37VHR in the 2008 G37 is the same as the on in the Z right? Unless there is some sort of revision, these should be possible w/ the Z as well. I haven't found anything (and I only did a quick google search) that made me feel like the engines are different, but most places speak of a "slight" difference in the 2008 G37 from the 2009+ Z/G engine.

Really, I am on the fence. I want to go F/I, but I'm having a hard time deciding what route to go. I could go w/ the AAM kit and have it insalled while I am home on leave (which would be very convenient). On the other hand, I could go with the GTM kit and either take a road trip to Cali or purchase all the components and locate a tuner/installer in TX (not as convenient, but not the worst). I would really like to see how the TT Zs do during the summer which will actually be the time when I can make that move.
