Default Stillen Supercharger boost

Good day Forums,
-
I've been reading this forum to upgrade my SC and solve almost all my problems, so thank you guys for that.

Today i am facing a problem that is unusual and would like the support from you guys.

What i have is a base 370 with a Stillen SC kit, since i installed the kit i got a boost of max 7 psi, then i made all the following upgrade:

- NISMO exhaust system
- FI test pipe
- SC upgrade with Vortech
- 9 lbs pulley upgrade from Stillen (got 1 size smaller belt)
- QRJ 38 mm blow-off valve
- GTR spark plugs
- 1000 CC injectors

yet with all those changes, i am still getting only 7 psi max!! at this point this is killing me and doesn't make any sense . I also tried taking out the blow-off valve and make a run by blocking the hose, got the same boost!

i really would like your feedback on this and hope i can fix this problem.

I would get a boost/vaccuum leak test done. I ha two small leaks, one at a throttle body and one at the small hose at front of SC boot. They were very small and weren't the cause of my issues...but definitely hav it done.

The way that kit is set up, you'll lose a couple of psi with test pipes. It's pretty common.

Do you get a nice vent to atmosphere sound with that BOV?

As for your issue I would say get with TBatt and his no-slip setup, sounds like a slip issue

Are you going with the Si trim and the 9psi pulley on the water setup? We all know the outcome of that combination...

Check your belt tensioner. It should look like this. If not, you may have a belt slip issue that I can help you with. I've been selling a lot of kits that will fix belt slip.

Don't rule out a leak though. You can do the leak check pretty easy if you have a compressor and a good regulator. That is how I found mine.

It's like a broken Queen record that's stuck on the chorus of "Another One Bites The Dust"...

As an aside, it's sad and disturbing how many motors a setup like that has killed, considering how robust this platform really is.

Yes, this platform can take a beating. Strong pistons and rods. But when it is advancing timing with insane heat coming in it doesnt take long for pre-det to take it out.

If only there was a way to get the charge temps down and let the engine know what temp the air is coming in....lol..

i will check if they do a vacuum leak test here, i live in Saudi Arabia, so i am not sure if that is even possible here.

True, but when i first installed the kit i didn't have test pipe and it was at 7 psi max also. it feels like thats the maximum pressure that it can reach

well, i dont get a vent sound from the BOV, nothing from the originial BOV that came with the kit or with QRJ. i dont get a sound at all, its like the valve is not releasing anything.

The #1 thing that's wrong with this setup is that the air cooler is AFTER that MAF sensors, which the ECU uses to get intake temperature and hence gets completely inaccurate data. This is very dangerous.

The #2 thing is the water cooler is just not adequate for prolonged use. Also dangerous, particularly when your ECU has no idea it has heatsoaked.

Topz is the resident expert on this and offers an Air-to-Air conversion kit which solves all the problems. ALOT safer, and ALOT more power....and pretty inexpensive to boot. No downsides. No brainer.

I am sure others will chime in with more detailed info.

That's not the maximum pressure it can reach. You were at 7psi with the restriction of the stock cats. You added the parts to run higher boost, but then removed the cats for test pipes. 7+2-2=7

Boost is not flow. Boost is pressure. Removing restrictions will lower boost, but increase flow. Did you dyno the car before/after the switch to test pipes? What you lost in boost may not lead to a 1:1 loss in power, especially with the increase in VE from the engine not straining to push air through the cats. .

With an aggressive setup like you have your intake temps are going to be very hot. Too hot for the water setup stillen provides. That is why they only sell the small pulley and the SC trim that came on the supercharger. Otherwise, why wouldnt they want to market a kit that makes much more horsepower. They know the water design (needed for carb approval) is only safe when boosting to a certain limit for longevity to the motor. And that limit is what they sell with the kit. It is not designed to add smaller pulleys and add larger trim supercharger components.

It is not a matter of if your motor will blow, its when. And being in a hot desert climate im sure it will happen sooner than later. Depending on your driver habits, it may take months or.... 1 day at the track.

and we have a winner!!
it looks like its the belt tensioner after all, we replaced it and managed to get 8-9 psi. at this point i am thinking of buying a one size smaller belt to better adjust this problem or go with the kit your talking about

belt tensioner picture
https://goo.gl/photos/pAaDczsDAsTuDfeg9

can you share with me the link for that kit so i can review it and share it with my guy.

also, would someone please share a link for the air-to-air kit, i also would like to review the setup to better manage my car.

i really appreciate all the support for you guys.
