So i was at my local performance shop today, the owners a good friend of mind so i got a legit answer here, 1950-2700

Is that with a tune? Is that for a centrifugal blower, too?

I might be way off, but to me, that seems a little too high for just an install.

I hope that is with tuning. Seems as though that is a lot of hours labor (assuming that they get $95-115/hr).

yea thats abit high...as long as the engine doesnt HAVE to be pulled, me and my buddies can do it at the base for the price of a few beers.

That pricing seems more in line with 20-27 hours of labor which seem way above what a SC takes. I thought a SC could be installed in 12 hours or less?

anything over 2k is a little steep for a S/C install in my opinion.
my car guy quoted me $1,800. I've been doing business with him for a while, but even if i was a new customer, he would not charge me anything over $2,100

This is a bit more accurate.

Depending on the kit, we charge anywhere from 8-12 hours of labor and our rate is $99.00/hour.

It also depends on if that price includes tuning. If he was adding tuning with that price then the original (lower) price seems a bit more realistic.

I did not do the math on the price vs labor hours, but I would think that it was because of tuning that a shop or mechanic would charge so much.

I remember taking my S13 to a shop in Naples, ITALY and the guy wanted like 300 Euro just to start. He had the only dyno around in the area, so I guess you gotta pay to play. I miss that CA18DET.

So is tuning a must or is it just more for fine tuning?

If Stillen releases their kit with a handheld tuner, the tuner will get your car running safely. You should be fine to go from there. It's at the dyno where a car can specifically be tuned to get some monster gains.

pre-tuned supercharger systems are 95% perfect. The only "missing" piece is for the guy going for the all out power on their particular vehicle. For most people, a generic tune will suffice. Others may want something specific to their car.

The other thing that we're learning during our tuning is that with our new hand held tuner's we will be able to dial a car in to basically 99% for safety, reliability, and great power increase. If someone wants to take it to the edge then they can get a custom tune done for sure.

With that being said though. You want to be sure who you trust with your car. I have seen so called "reputable shops" blow up engines on the dyno during the tuning process. I will never forget one of those shops claim to fame. "We made more power on 7 cylinders than you did with 8." Made me LMAO!!! A lot goes into tuning, and tuning on a naturally aspirated car vs. a forced induction car is TOTALLY different. If someone doesn't know what they're doing, they can melt down an engine quickly!!!
