SC Impeller Upgrade?
Ok guys, I did a google search and couldn't seem to find all the answers I was looking for....
I'm considering the impeller upgrade on the Vortech blower from Stillen...Based on what I've read so far the options are 1). Upgraded impeller from 928 Motorsports in which you can order the Impeller (Counter Clockwise if I'm not mistaken) OR 2). The Vortech Ti or Si Upgrade.... Through my search I found that the Vortech impeller upgrade appears to be cheaper (I beleive AMNVQ quoted around sub $300) versus the 928 Impeller which will run about $600 with shipping. The 928 Motorsports option is pretty clear cut...but how can you order the Vortech upgrade...I've read so many different things...some people posted Vortech won't do it cuz of Stillen and another posted that he was able to get it through communications with both Stillen and Vortech.... I went to Vortech's site and it doesn't have any options about impeller upgrades there....I've also read that if you want to do the impeller upgrade you have to ship the blower out...Is this true for both the Vortech and 928 Motorsports upgrade? I also wanted to know from those that have experience with these impellers as to which one is better performance wise? I know that the 928 Motorsports site advertises 10-15% more boost throughout the power band, but I couldn't find anything about how much boost/power the Si or Ti impeller upgrade would make....

Call Vortech. It's a V3, you can send it to them directly.
There is a page in their website about the upgraded impeller and data sheet but it's hard to find. I'll see if I can track down the link. Ask them about ceramic bearings while you're at it. Just a heads up there is a third option: Supercharger Rebuilds » Vortech V1, V2, V3, V4, V5, V7, V9, V24, V28 |

I had bookmarked that link on Vortech's page I was talking about and now just get a 404 on it so they must have changed it. Was a real good information sheet that had all the specs of each trim on one page for easy reference too. No idea why they would have got rid of it but they did.
You can get all the information from that supercharger rebuilds site but it's just not as well laid out. At least it's all there though. Otherwise can call Vortech, their customer service is excellent. Unlike Stillen's |

Yes, Vortech techs are awesome at customer service and answering technical questions.
I would send my unit to them if i were doing it as they are the manufacturers of this unit and know it better than anyone else. They also will most likely warranty their work.

I tried several setups (928 & Shaper from Gemany) Send the blower to Vortech and upgrade it to Si. Incl. new high-performance bearings.

It's easier and you'll have more ease of mind sending it over to Vortech. Your warranty will pretty much be gone if you go the alternative routes. From what I've read, the Si is actually better than 928's impeller and kicks in earlier.
It's a bit risky having the Ti conversion done as well because they need to bore the unit. If you really want it, you gotta buy the whole unit off the corvette sites, since Vortech specifically makes it for them. |

Adding to this thread since it is recent and in target. The volute doesn't need to be turned for the si impeller upgrade, correct? The opening is 3.33" and narrows to 3.02" at the impeller. I know some of them need the volute to be opened up but looking for confirmation that's not the case with this impeller upgrade.
Also, does anyone have any pics of the impellers. Either stock Vortech or even better the Si trim upgraded one? Want to do a direct comparison. Thanks, appreciate it |

Can't help ya with the comparrison pics bud, but I can tell you for certain that the volute does not need to be scrolled for the Si upgrade. The Sci is simply a trimmed down Si impeller so it is a simple swap with a spacer to have the correct gap. Hope this helps you somewhat

The only time the volute needs to be scrolled is for the Ti trim. You can find pics of the SCI, S, SI, and TI vortech and alternative impellers online easily. What are you looking at in terms of comparing them though?

Whole dealing with rebuilding this thing I sent so pictures and video to the shop. The blower I bought second hand - supposedly almost brand new but that's another story - was told it was an Si trim with the upgraded impeller.
The blower ended up being fubar, hence my conversations with the rebuild shop in the first place. But now it seems I got fvcked even more and it isn't an Si trim impeller at all Found some decent images. Here is a stock sci trim right from Stillen: Here is a picture of mine I took right before packaging it up this morning: This ain't Sesame Street, one of these things is exactly the fvcking same as the other So not only was it beat to ****, broken, missing parts, packed like ****, damaged, it wasn't even what he told me it was. |

Here are some pictures of my supercharger after getting it back last week from 928 Motorsports. They did the Super Vortech upgrade. 72k rpm rated ceramic bearings, HSS steel bearings for the input drive shaft, seals, and impeller. I think the impeller looks pretty sweet. Hoping for some big boost out of it.
