GTM Stage 1.5 Diverter valve noise
So I did my first drive after installing the Stage 1.5 upgrade...
Originally my BOV plumbed back with the stage 1 kit. Relatively quiet but fluttered under medium acceleration. Now, it vents to the atmosphere and is loud as hell, almost sounds like my wheezing grandma... for lack of a better description.. lol I have a turbosmart plumb back and also a synapse diverter valve. What are you guys running with what spring and how tightened down do you have the spring. Is it loud also when it blows off? I'm looking to quiet it down a bit... |

The spring tightness does not really matter, at least did not feel any real difference. I try to keep at medium tightness most of the time. The biggest issue with turbosmart bpv I've had is that the piston inside gets dirty, dry and eventually gets stuck or leaking boost when full throttle. Even once a month cleaning and lubing did not help. So after my last track day and very leaky bpv I decided to try something different. It took me 6 months of waiting to finally receive the synapse diverter valve. I haven't gotten a chance to install it yet. Also haven't been driving the car due to winter so I am not in real rush plus need to cut off and weld on new flange for the synapse diverter valve. |
I also have the Synapse diverter valve and that one wheezes..lol
I might get creative, fabricate a pipe and plumb the valve back into the intake. There is definitely room to run some 1.25" or 1.5" silicone /aluminum pipe from the diverter valve to the intake. Weld on a 1.25"/1.5" flange to the intake. That would quiet things down considerably. Someone tell me why this should not be done. |
UPDATE:
I re-installed the spring that comes with the Synapse valve when I purchased it as I had the softer supercharger spring in it as of this post.. The softer spring seemed to work best with the stage 1 kit. Anyway, I tightened the stiffer spring to about 2/3 the way tight, ran the vacuum hose to B port ONLY( furthest from the outlet) and did not plug the A port. I also have K & N filter # RU-0060 installed on the outlet . The sound volume has gone way done and I am getting a medium loud fluttering sound when the valve blows off. I can live with this...... Maybe I can not get the car in boost yet to really see the result as I installed 1000cc injectors . My tune guy sent me a remote fuel map adjustment to the Gamma canned tune , just so I could get the car up and running. The setups I had before this post were: 1) Synapse diverter valve with S.C. spring. Not stiff enough for the new stage 1.5 setup, would blow off during acceleration. 2) The turbosmart valve which also had the softer spring, and it was loud as hell. |
i run the TIAL...its loud and i love it. i like to run up second gear and let off the gas fast so it blows off right beside a ricer or mustang..gives them whip lash!!!!!!!
i had some flutter but after a quik google search and found if i put a washer under spring it may stop. It worked. but it is loud coming off throttle. |
Was the tial a direct switch or did you have to make modifications to the pipe and location
|
I supply the Tial with my kit. I did a study on different valves. The problem you guys are having with those other valves is that they are just too damn small. The turbosmart is only a 1" valve and can only flow something like 200cfm's. That is way too small which is why you get the flutter or if you dial it in right it still sounds like a wheezing grandpa. It literally is choking itself out becuase it cannot evacuate the amount of air in the system. This is really hard on the supercharger as the air it cannot vent is getting surged back into the supercharger which is hard on bearings.
Get a big *** bpv like the TIal QRJ which is rated at 650cfm's. Or look into the Procharger "Big Red" which flows something crazy like 900cfms. Thats what all the mustang guys running over 700whp use. The Vortech Mondo is another good one. I had the Vortech Race also but it had a high pitched ting noise too it under throttle blip. The Tial is loud and if you think the turbosmart scares people you have no idea. The Tial sounds a thousand times better like it means business instead of sounding like it has a chicken bone stuck in its throat. |
I was also looking into swapping out the turbosmart bpv for a tial bov or bpv. Does anyone know if you need different flanges when performing this swap?

I have tried Turbosmart, Syanapse ( 2 types, the diverter and their newest blowoff which use the same flange) and Tial. |

This was before I did the stage 1.5 kit, so I had it recirculating in the stage 1 setup. My new setup is vent to atmosphere. I have been looking at the Tial QRJ since reading your post. I don't have a lot of confidence in my Syanpase diverter valve as it has stuck on me .. Again before the Stage 1.5... I'm having the new stage 1.5 setup tuned the week of Jan. 23rd. |
Get the QRJ w/ 1.5psi spring and Q to QR adapter flange in with Q clamp and 1.5" exhaust side. Select your color to match your ride. Done.

Probably. In my kit it is a plug and play.
