Default Need feedback on Specialty Z's 6 puck clutch/flywheel kit.

My CSC just went halfway to the floor Friday morning due to the tail tail signs of it going out. I am looking for a clutch/flywheel kit replacement. I have some questions about the Speciality Z 6 puck clutch/flywheel kit. Does it keep the factory engagement feeling at the clutch pedal up toward the top? Any issues with it?

No.. it's a quality kit but made driving a chore. Nobody in my household like driving my car because of it. I dint mind driving my car but I'm bias being that it's my car. I had to actually get use to it. It's a on off switch. Too much grab. It's really hard to get a good launch as you can't hardly slip the clutch. It's causes the car to bog or spin out.

Get a South bend. That's what I will get when not this one dies.

Buy your next clutch from joe at ZSpeed or Jon at z1. Skip the specialty z setup. They'll take care of you if there are any problems.

I am not really worried about it being an on/off switch so much. I just want the engagement/disengagement to be like factory near the top of the pedal. I can't stand it on the floor or midway. I do not want to have to buy a new pedal assembly.

By the way, it is in the FI section because I will be going TT in the near future.

Yo Spooler, I have it on my set up and because it is a competition clutch it is just as YzGyz states. The clutch is meant to be launch with some force as it is very grabby. I like the engagement as it is high and you don't have to mash it to the floor to get it in gear. I have had mine for almost 18 months with no problems. I made several runs in a row at the air strip, Big Dog contest the day before ZDAYZ and I had no issues at all. It has also preformed well at track days. I have been very satisfied with it and would recommend it as a quality set up.

That is what I needed to know. With TT you need it to be grabby with a lightened flywheel or it will start to slip in no time. The engagement point is what I am more worried about. I do not want to have to buy the RJM pedal assembly. I need to order it this week. MY CSC has given me short notice that it is about to die.

Yup, I just removed my clutch helper and have been happy since I did it three years ago.

Not trying to derail your thread here, but is there any particular reason why you don't want the RJM clutch pedal?

Also, the fact that your CSC did not fail completely means it's probably the master going out. That's not to say that your CSC isn't on its way out.

All I know is I had to drop the transmission 3x myself to get it right. They took care of things but having to drop the transmission more than once sucked. Having to send the clutch and fly to them to "inspect it" on my dime sucked. But it's working now. I have over 13,000 miles on mine. It performs and can and will handle lots of power. I just have bitter taste in my mouth that's all.

Get a new clutch master while you are at it. My pedal engagement was super low until I replaced it. As the RJM pedal. It made driving 10x easier and enjoyable. On off switch sucks in traffic.

Because I have delt with many many CSC issues. I have some fluid missing from my CMC reservoir. It went out the CSC. Only very few times have CMC's failed and had a leak. If you run the CMC dry when you have a CSC issue, then CMC is done. The CMC seals can't take the heat or being ran dry.

Not sure I understand that.... Can you explain?

I have the Z1 full face clutch and flywheel combo.. just like stock with a little extra pedal effort, including the engagement point. Rated to hold 500ft-lb.

Do to the speed the RPM ramps up when under boost with the lightweight flywheel. Over time, the clutch will start to slip a bit and create heat. That is when you get the smell. I personally want the on/off switch. The clutch will chatter a bit sometimes. I am OK with it. It beats replacing the dang clutch all the time. Time will tell if you have chosen wisely. Put 30k on it and let us know.

Yeah, I don't get you guys. You put 30k extra in a car and don't drive it. The only way to get your money back is to drive it out of it. Guess I have been paying for Smiles for Miles a long time. Since 1986,LOL.
