Default Cool SC via AC

I mentioned to a car guru that I may convert my Stillen SC from air to liquid cooling over to air to air. He said I shouldn't and I should keep the liquid cooling and use the air conditioner.
Has anyone considered this or heard of this? He had to go so he couldnt elaborate on it but said he would stop by next week to talk to me about it.

The part I don't get as I haven't really read up on it much, is the parasitic loss from running the AC as well. Superchargers already take what like 80hp just to turn it? I suppose as long as the gains are more than the loss then it's all good. It really is something I should educate myself on more, especially with a pending installation just around the corner!

There's a reason you haven't heard much of these and never seen one. Because they are gimmicky, complex and will still never perform like a proper Air cooled charge. It might help a little when sitting at a stop sign for several minutes waiting for your temps to drop but it just can't keep up with the amount of heat it needs to cool.

You would be way better off just setting up a sprayer and hitting your ic with meth water or nos. While still a band -aid fix, These actually have some merit.

Do you really think adding this will gain 100whp and 100wtq like the a2a kit is capable of? Not a $700 gamble I would put my money on.

Thanks ChaseZ and TopGunZ for providing some constructive and worth while comments. I admit I do not know a lot about engines but I do know enough to put in my own super charger...and how can a lazy person actually install a super charger? By spending 100's of hours reading internet websites, forums, blogs, you tube video, talking with mechanics, and asking questions to the manufacturer...oh but wait I'm lazy...I better go to be now.

Maybe I'm missing something but a car A/C doesn't remove heat very quickly and it seems to me that it will be overloaded once air flow gets much above what the HVAC fan puts out. Add in compressor drive losses and I'm guessing you will have a net loss at the crank. But that's just my guess - it would be interesting to hear from someone who knows thermodynamics and could run some numbers.

Yes, I can't imagine it could net you much if anything. I hate driving with the AC on as I can feel the drop in power and the drop in fuel mileage. But apparently I'm just a lazy member expecting Zat Zuma to do all the work ;-P

Oh well, this week I will talk to a coworker that has experimented with such a system.

Ford made an ac cooled charge as a prototype but it was just a "hit" would give around 50hp for a short period of time then the liquid had to be cooled down again.

It's something that works, drag racers use ice boxes, same concept but it's not a full time usage thing like air2air

imazman it wasn't really directed at you but if you take offense to the comment, maybe your guilty and you know it!

A lot of members expect me to give them all the answers without researching themselves. If I answer one, there is always 10 more questions after that. It almost seems that some members expect you to provide the answer to every question they have. (their is no reward for thinking of the questions)

That's why I no longer help members and if I need a answer to a question I can usually find the answer with a little work, reading and figure it out. If not, I can innovate and engineer a answer.

Plus, I know that I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Why do we have a forum? It is to help share ideas, knowledge and yes, questions. I have seen bitter members who have been on here too long and they are like the cranky old man who hates kids because he forgot what is like to be one scenario.

To those members, go pick up a hobby you don't know anything about and remember...dont ask any questions.

Ooookay, back on topic, this is the first I've ever heard of this idea going mainstream, always was in the back of my mind before and I'm curious now.

For those complaining it would sap power, there was a standalone 12V option, a '2kw' system... but a 2kw compressor on a 12V system is an enourmous drain (166A+) if my math is right? Surely I'm missing something.

Cheers,
MoulaZ
